whats up w/ subs upsidedown and no case
alright i am wondering, i just got done watching MTV Cribs and saw this d00ds car all tripped out with subs and so enclosure or anything, they just were connected to a board with no hole in it, face down with the basket showing ya know.
Are there any advantages to this or is this just really cheap way to do it. Why would it work though pressure has to be different on each side of the sub for it to work, right?

you have to have some kind of box or compartment...and a woofer firing against a flat board will break something...doesn't make any sense to me...maybe u couldn't see the hole...

no i saw it even if there was a hole it would make less sence, i kinda put it together if the top is face down on a flat board the pressure will be sealed in the cone when it is like that. Now if there were a hole you couldn't do anything.
But i asked one of my friends who is in to sterios and he said it makes the car shake, i dont think he knows what hes tlaking about because noone wants that kinda noise cause then theres no music.
so i think my gues is rightr becuase iw as searching it and some speakers are made to be like that, surprisingly enough.

look at the info and it says somthing about mouting positions.

most likely they were in some sort of enclosure ratherm clear plexi, or mirror in a fashion where you couldnt see the enclosure. But mounting subs inverted, is getting more and more popular, some people claim it makes a slight difference in sound quality others say its unnoticible. Im no expert on installations but when mounting subs inverted you just have to wire them out of phase. Hope that helped a little...and if there was no enclosure ..there where probably inverted and running in an IB (infinate baffle) setup....yeah you know they got money to burn
the box is probably underneath the subs. you can make an enclosure for subs designed to have them facing into the box instead of out; it's the same principle pretty much.
Otherwise, there are such things as free-air subs. That's about all I know about them, though.

Yea you probably just couldnt see the box "d00d", or they were running an IB which I know very little about. The link you posted just stated that it looked good mounted upside down, meaning the back of the sub looked good (it actually looks kinda cr@ppy, but there trying to sell stuff i guess). Im knot sure if there is big dif in mounting upside down, a friend of mine had 2 MB Quart 12's mounted upside down to the box in his trunk and it sounded real nice, but it coulda sounded the same right side up...
