remove or dont remove (sail panel speaker backing foam)
The little boxes made from foam that at in the sail panels behind the speakers ,,,,should i turf them of leave them???

I believe its called a baffle. Its to reduce rattle and add a little (keyword little) bass also protect the back of the speaker from the elements and dust and dirt.

haha a pic eh,,,its funny looking, tomorow if theres no othere pics up 1st ill take one and put it up. They are behind the speakers and travel down in behind...its not compleatly closed in at all its got two big holes in them and I was wondering if anyone reenforced them with fiberglass or anything. with the size of holes the factory has in them i dont think they'd do anything for sound at all, they seem more just for element pourposes.
To get at them you 1st have to remove the factory metal plates the speakers are attached to.
A tip for anyone,,,my plates were driving me insane vibrating al the time so thats why i took them off i coated them with rubberized undercoating and im ganna use foam tape when instaling them again,,that goes for the speakers too.....crapy tin plates and speakers dont go together well GM!!

sorry it took so long i forgot i was working weds and thurs....but here are 3 photos

actually i find the sail panels suck for bass,,,they are rotten for bass.. iv never heard it w/o them baffles tho.

Has any one tried glassing these up with resin and some fiberglass mat over the holes? I was thinkin if I glassed this paticular fiber inside and out, it would make a much stouter peice, seal it, and then poly fill it. Then my 6x9's that sound great in my gf's Olds (big sealed trunk as enclosure) but ****ty in my Z, might actually have some depth to the sound then.

that would work id say if you wacked the resin to it..but yah it would be a very cheap job too...that way you can look at it like this gm built nice molds for us to make fiberlgass boxes from....i think ill try it before spring dude good thought...

Transmission: 700r4, vette servo,shift kit, hayden 15"x8" trans cooler.
i just noticed how large the hole was in the sail panel, i wonder how big of a speaker you can stuff in there.

6x9s or whatever sound way better in the cargo pit cover with an amp, HP 80-100Hz.....thats some bass you will never get from the sail panels, Imaging isn't so bad either as long as the front speakers are adequit.
Since this is the f-body's equivelent to a sedan's rear deck, it is the closest you can come to the sound of those cars. The rattle is much less too.

yes but that space for me is already got enoght bass flying out of it. I have mine amped in my sails it makes a heck of of a diff. i can actually hear the 6x9s on the highway with the windows down now.
the hole in the sail is pretty big all you have to do is make a new plate out of say 1/2 mdf or plexglass and cut your holes....im not sure but i dont think anythig bigger then say 8"round could go in there. but yah fiberglassing the hole foam part would give you the best possable bass id say from the sails....and i got no were else to put them really.

Little bass response is right, but you'd be surprized what you can get from speakers when the acoustics are tweaked too. I had people asking me where the sub was when i only had two 6x9s powered from an Alpine HU, with the BBE on and the bass on -3.......of course that's why I mentioned the cargo cover.
I did that when i was 17, I moved the speakers back up to the sail panels, but it just didn't sound any better, I left them in the back and added an Alpine V12 75x2 amp 100Hz HP....then it sounded like subs....then i added two 12" and a JL 500/1.....and I was foaming at the mouth...like .....ahhh subs....:lala:
If anyone cares to follow in my footsteps, i would recomend to go with round coaxials and avoid ovals since the cut was a little challenging and it burned up three jig blades. That's some hard plastic!
If you can get solid baffles from partsexpress, I would mount them and then take them out and cut a 2" diameter hole somewhere behind it to get the smooth bass propagation.
I tend to have a sixth sense when it comes to car audio and acoustics, but the research has been done and the facts are published. There is a book, Autosound 2000 for about $90, it's about 2-3" thick I hear it's choc full of good stuff. It's like the loudspeaker cookbook for cars.

Do u mean that they sound just as good in the sail panels w/the baffles as they do in the cargo area in boxes?
