Impressive spl today
Ok so heres the system
pioneer 4x6 TS-G4611 front speakers
pioneer 6x9 TS-A6975 rear speakers
jvc cd player
2 mtx audio thunder 4000 12" 's
jensen 250w amp
pheonix gold wiring
Hit a 144.9 peak
The guys run the first test at a 144.6 then i showed em how the box was built as its open on the long sides and he couldn't believe with the amp and the box it was hitting those numbers. HE tests it again and it peaked at a 144.9. I was really impressed with the numbers as was the guy over at KTC audio in aurora. This is the first system i've built and wanna know what you guys think of that spl. I know i've seen better but for the amp and box i was impressed.

The amp is mounted upside down between the subs and never burned it up, overheated it or blown a fuse in the entire system

I'm eager to see how my solobarics line up sometime... I need to get rid of my pesky "bargain bin CD player" because if I turn it up too loud it will just skip.
Then again, maybe that's just the 'quality'
of the BestBuy installation team. After the job done on the CD player I vowed to do the rest of the work by myself.
But anyways, those aren't bad numbers for the speakers and amp that you have. I'd like to see if you upgraded your amp and mids and highs what the results would be. Nonetheless... more power to ya buddy, just keep on bumpin.

Probaly going to be getting a new amp. I know a guy who's gonna sell me a pioneer gm-x304 4 channel 400 watt amp for 75 bucks. When it was in his ride he was pushing 10's that were awesome so i figure maybe it'll do something good for mine. I have the problem with the skipping when the bass starts hitting real hard too but its gotta be pretty loud to do it and i rarely have it that loud unless i'm really going for all out attention. There's a silicon type stuff a guy i know had that i put around where the cd player mounts to the dash and it helped it a little to stop the skipping at least at low volumes!

If I were you I'd look into a JBL amp. I have a JBL 1200.1 powering my two solobarics and they don't skip a beat (unless the crappy cd player gets in the way).
Look into the RMS rating on your speakers, I bet the JBL 600.2 would be a perfect amplifier for your speakers.
Let me know when you get the new stuff in, I'm eager to see how loud you can get it.

They held the mic above the console and back a little they ran a couple diff. cd's through it to see what it peaked at. Most of em were strictly bass cds. I was under the understanding there was a cd that sounded like static that gave them readings but i dunno

Above the console. That's the key phrase I was looking for. Mic placement has a dramatic effect on SPL, and your numbers were WAY WAY WAY too high for what you have, and that's why. If your mic was placed according to IASCA guidelines, I'd be very surprised if your setup gave SPLS higher than the mid 120s.

IIRC, the IASCA spot is 4" above the dash and 6" from the passanger side "A" pilar.
I'd have to look them up to be sure, but that's the general area.
I was thinking
also simply because of what I hit with mine.
At the time I had an MTX Thuner 3000 (same as yours but a yr older design) 8 ohm, the Punch 100 that I have now, a cheap Audiovox CD player (Rampage), and a sealed enclosure.
I hit 135.5 dB.
A lot of my friends were upset. One guy had 2 JBL 12" subs with an MTX sub amp (not sure what model) in a '92 Hyundai Scoupe and hit 132.4 dB.
Another had (don't laugh) 2 10" Sony Xplod subs with a Sony 75 x 2 running them and hit 134.2 dB.
That's what they get for driving Hyundais
Now I have a 12" Pioneer IMP 4 ohm sub in a ported enclosure, and as far as I can tell, it hits A LOT harder than the MTX did. Obviously because it's a 4 ohm, but also because of the ported box AND it's a Pioneer.
The best part was the SQ doubled also.
No offense intended, but now I know why the local stereo shop that held those sound offs uses an MTX sub as a door prop.

irocbirdbuilder------- what mic was used when you were tested? I've got pioneer 2-12's dvc 4ohm 800 watts, the same dash and 6 x 9's as you but with a pioneer hu and an ample audio 1100Dx amp and the sub box is tuned to 49. I hit a 142 on the linear X and the next week on audiocontrol I hit 146.9. There is a large difference in mics. Congrats on the score you got. Both of my scores were in the kick panel running a legal blast.
