So whats your take on car DVD players???

LEGACY is know for some cheap crap but a DVD players are really simple and hard to screw up. They are almost cheaper than most VCR's now. MP3 player is even harder to screw up. Both can be had for pennies and work great.

I would like a portable / car / home DVD player. I have really looked at the different brand but for the option and warranty I can not beat this deal.

Once you check out options, warranty and price, I am ready to drop some cash. Ebay is a wash out as I can not dig through all that crap but maybe a few here have dug into the DVD world for the car.

But mine will actually spend more time in the house but I still want one like that. "portable" with lots of hookups that can really go anywhere.

Only thing I can find different by the pricer brands is they will have 4 audio out puts but less of the neat options.

If you think DVD players are hard to screw up, buy one of the $30 "christmas special" dvd players that are currently available and see how long it takes to overheat.

Then imagine the same thing in an enclosure 1/3 the size, in an automotive environment.

The price sound about right if you look at what things cost. Legacy just took part off the shelf and merged them. Computer DVD player only go for $20-$30, MP3 players are just as cheap. All they did was put it in one box with some out puts. I have enough parts here I could make one If I had the programing ability.

Them cheap home store DVD players work great. Everyone bought one of them Apex flashable DVD players. A VCR DVD player is only $100.

If the, you get what you pay for attitude holds true. You just blew half the people argument on this board away on why to build a Chevy 350. Cause it cheaper.

Saving money does not mean less performance.

But if anyone here thinks they know of a better one post some specs or a link. i am open minded but I can not find anything close in the specs, option and warranty for $150 or less.

none of the "better" brands offer a full 2 year warranty. Not that I have found.

I know people who worked for Legacy and they make some good products if you shop right. But they also have a whole line of garbage too, if you don't pay attention to what your buying.

sounds like you have your mind made up. yes building a chevy 350 is cheap compared to other motors. but your not gonna buy a cast rotating asymbly if you want power are ya? no your gonna get forged. think of legacy and other 'cheap' brands as cast and good companies like kicker, JL, and infinity as forged. and you say you cant find a better warranty. well $50 says they have so many loop holes in that policy that they can get out of it when it comes time to make a claim in february.

I sad I was open minded???

Post something better if you can come up with some intelligent argument rather than witty smart remarks???

I'm glad you think so. If I were you I'd keep a fire extinguisher nearby, and for ***'s sake, don't buy the bargain one of those too.

Personally, I think DVD players in Camaros are pointless. The only one watching a DVD is the passenger. The driver is gonna be driving, and the two folks in the back are too busy focusing on being comfortable.

Then why waste our time with a useless response? Nobody asked whether you liked the idea or not, we're discussing brand quality.

Hmmm...I sense a little hostility. Seems like everytime someone posts something, JIM85IROC is just itching to get into a fight. I have a little advice for you, if you think my response is useless, don't read it.

Theres no need for a DVD player in any car especaily if your driveing it. Just bump your music and thats it. Camaros are too small of a car to have a whole family system in it anyways.

If you what a DVD, get a DVD.
A little off topic of portable DVD but still mobile DVD. I just got a chance to work with the new Pioneer in dash DVD HU. The AVH-P7500DVD is out right leaps and bounds ahead of the last line of in dash DVD from pioneer.

They fix ALL the problems with the last series in this one. Usually takes three or four model releases to get it all work out. This thing is Built great. They get a little of the respect I lost back.

The DVD part that I want is to be able to burn Gig's and Gig's of MP3's onto one disc.

I got a killer stereo and all I do is listen to MP3's.

I would not be watching movies in the car. peroid.

I have a portable VCR that I take camping and I could also burn 3-4 riped movies onto one DVD.

I could buy a new stereo that does MP3 but DVD would be so sweet with the amount of data that could go on one disc.

Why? Just because you don't see the benefit doesn't mean others don't. I like mine. I have it on while I drive. It doesn't mean that I stare at it like a 10 year old stares at his first playboy. It's there when I want to glance at it. The best part about having it is that I get to listen to music that's available only on DVD. I enjoy a lot of the live performances that are a DVD-only type of item.

JIM85IROC is just itching to get into a fight.
I'm not itching for anything. I just think your opinion is best saved for a time when it actually matters.

We better outlaw car stereos in general then because I spend 5x more time dicking with changing radio stations than I ever spend staring at my monitor. Don't be an idiot. You have no idea what of "people like me" do when in the car. I'm as safe of a driver as you'll ever find, and my spotless driving record is proof enough of that.

Having the ability to pay attention to what the hell you're doing doesn't mean that you've got to drive with tunnel vision like a fricking horse with blinders. Some people actually have the g0d-given ability to walk and chew gum simultaneously.

By no chance im not saying you have a DVD player in a car your a bad person but i think it is bad when you admit that you watch TV while your driveing. And as for changing stations on your HU i rather have a person watching a movie then twitchin with the radio while driving lol. I had a couple friends who wrecked there car because they were messin with there HU. I just wouldnt feel right when im on the road knowing the person next to me was watchin a movie. Just dont feel like im downing you or anything people have diferent views.

Amen...
:hail: :lala:

I don’t like cell phone because my best friends mother’s cousin was killed when one ring and startled her and spilt her hot coffee in her lap. Let’s say that every one with a cell phone is a bad bad person, and that the fleas of a thousand camels should infest there arm pits.

I’m not left handed, a think we should outlaw those red handled scissors.

Now I shouldn’t have to say J/K but I will. Just because someone dose something wrong doesn’t mean that we need to have this nee jerk reaction. You have your opinion, we have ours. But to post “Because of people like you theres people dead because of some dumb @$$ runnin people over. “ is just taking things to an extreme, and making things personal. This behavior serves no purpose but to get people all worked up. Now let’s see if we can keep this discussion appropriate.

It was wrong for me to say that but the truth is the truth. I live in So Cal (Southern California) every day on the news there more and more reports on people dieing because there were on the phone and they ran into some one or someone ran into them same thing with DVD players switching CDs and stuff like that. DVD players are sick (sick as in good) and if i had the money and the right type of ride(like a suv or a caddy) i would get one. But as for the best brand get the pioneer all there products are sick. Except for the subs.

I agree...Let's keep this discussion appropriate and stay away from comments that have nothing to do with DVD Players, such as:

1. Comments about 10 year olds looking at Playboy.

2. Startling cell phone calls.

3. Someone spilling coffee in their lap.

4. Fleas on Camels.

5. Other people's arm pits.

6. and red handled scissors.

NOTE: Most "live performances" that are on DVD can also be found on audio CD's as well...just minus the video.

And you have a point with the Live performances, But not all are, and not in DVD audio. I don’t know Jim, but from his posts he is going for the best audio he can get, and that's DVD audio in all its Dolby 5.1/6.1 beauty. (The new Pioneer in dash unit is also 5.1 compatible! That right a center channel output. But I’m off topic) I don’t know if Jim has a 5.1 system in his car. But why should he buy a DVD of the show and then buy the audio CD just to listen to it in his car. My be he rideshares and has a long what before or after work. Great opportunity to see that new live Care Bear musical. You just don’t know what is going on, with how he drives or how I drive or how any other hundred people drive. The question was about “Car DVD” or portable DVD as we found from reading the post. Jim posted his “Take on car DVD players” and he get lambasted for it. My take on them is that the new pioneer is da shiz. Do I have one, NO. would I put one in my car, NO would I put one in my truck if money was no problem (HAHAHAHA) YES!!!!! Would I get a portable, NO, I fix them to, there crap. A $50.00 DVD player is a $50.00 DVD player. There junk sorry.

And virtually every one of them has less songs. Plus, I have no interest in spending my time copying audio tracks over to CD, nor do I want to buy 2 versions of everything.

Plus, I can drive my car with the video on without being distracted. Plain and simple. I couldn't care less what other people's opinions are on the subject. I can do it safely, so there's no reason for me not to. Glancing at my monitor is still far less distracting than talking to a passenger, fooling with my scan tool, staring out the window at some d-cup tramp in a miniskirt, trying to find a station that's not full of commercials, or trying to get to work with a coffee in one hand and an Egg McMuffin in the other. I do encourage all of you to make sure you follow me into every single other thread I participate in to make sure that you voice your opinions on my daily activities so that I know where I stand.

Just a stereo is bad enough. Don't know how many time I was playing with it and noticed I hadn't looked at the road for a while.

I do the same thing on my motorcycle. I stare into the rear view mirror then realize I'm not looking where I'm going.

But I seriously doubt that Ill get into any more of a trance with a DVD player.

I'm sure everyone know a guy with more money in his stereo than anything and he must tune the entire system for each song. Those are fun people to drive with. They got 2-3 remotes they must adjust and get it all set and tuned 2/3 way through the song. Then must re-do it when the next one comes on.

Audio freaks, those guys are potential mixer engineers and sound board techs. (I'm a tech too, but I only pratice it in front of the board, NOT my car) I really can't see the purpose of installing a DVD setup in a car as small as an F-body, now, maybe if you had an Excursion or a really big minivan (oxymoron...) and had to babysit some wee ones in the back seat... But hey, it's your car and you can do what you like. I'll try not to stare at your DVD player when I pull alongside you!

that commercial is awesome!

Well i'm not sure about car dvd players(come on, im a kid!), but as far as home dvd players i'm not so sure about that "You get what you pay for." We have 5 dvd players in my house. My little sister has her portable one, some wierd chinese brand, and the battery last 30 minutes. My mom uses a "christmas special" $150 dvd/vcr. The vcr sucks, and the voices on the dvd are 5 seconds ahead of the characters! Then there's the $350 phillips 5 disks bs. IT works about half the time, but when it doesn't I put it in one of the Sony PS2's in my house. They always work and you can play games. I mean, come on, you gotta go all out if you want dVds in your car! Maybe you can even learn to work the controller and steer at the same time!
Seriously though blaze1. I ran into a ditch at 80 on a dirt road. I don't even think i had the radio on (i can't remember! ) My only distraction was the i was pissed off and it was dark. DvDs or not people will always find distractions

Alright Jim, if you say that you're a safe driver then I'll believe you. If you're happy with your DVD player, then I'm happy for you. And if you're checkin' out some "d-cup tramp" while you're driving...I'm proud of you.

from what i've seen, there can be drastic differences between any two models of DVD players even in the same price ranges. I would check it out in person if possible, just to see if it's what you want. Power up the Legacy before you install it, then you can ruturn it if it doesn't work too good. I would check it for skipping and viewing angle.

I don't need one myself because I'm already driving a stick, steering with my knee, adjusting the radio and/or using the cell phone with a cup of coffe perhaps or making rude hand gestures to other drivers....It's a miracle I make it to where I'm going each day with .001% of my attention on the road.

I'm going to set my cruize control at 50 and drive down streets with green lights. Rush hour would be the best time (thicker traffic), then I can sue when I hit a car, I'll let you all know how it goes!

I'm gonna go ahead and let someone buy it for me on my B-day in 28 days.

Can't wait to get the LCD mounted in the stearing wheel and go crusing while watching the latest Girls Gone Wild.

Driving a stick will make shifting hard.

That is so much like how I drive its crazy. No really thats what I love the stick for, if your sober enough to drive a stick, then you should be sober enough to drive the car:lala: :lala: :lala:

Im obviously jokeing for those people on here who take everything to heart.

and for the certain mod who is sure to say somehting about this being a useless post, you would be doing a good job "modding"

takes a while to learn how to drive and watch the car DVD but after some trial and error you'll learn to run over less stuff :lala:

Driving a stick and eating a big mac with extra sauce is never a good idea. You can control your grip fine unti you shift then you end up with goo all over your ****.

Well I got my DVD player today. Man is this sucker nice. It comes with every cable you could ever want even a cig lighter plug. It works really well, has lots of options and plays anything I stick in it. And of course it will spend most of it life next to my VCR. But once I get a DVD burner I will then be able to make giant MP3 disc for it but will most likely never permanently install it in the car but will take it for long trips.

Its well worth the asking price.

Anyone that had anything bad things to say about this awesome little box should be ashamed of them self. You will not waste $100 on this neat little box but save a bundle.

Its 3 systems in 1.

a car DVD/mp3 player
a home dvd player
and with the inputs I can run my computer through it, not some wimpy game machine.

Hey, my ps2 plays games, dvds, and it never gets viruses or needs fixed!
Really though, how does the sound work on that thing? I asume it uses preouts and rcas to a tv, but how do you get sound from your stereo?

with the front inputs. You can run the radio right through it and into the amp. I only use RCA out puts on my stereo anyways. And most newer ones have have RCA inputs so you could then just run the DVD through the stereo instead of in between.
I can actually do both.

And what does a PS2 and viruses have anything to do with it??

When a PS2 can download **** let me know.

I know it's a little late, but the Blaupunkt DVD ME-3 is awsome. It's got DVD/MP3 plus a TV tuner and 2 aux inputs. I put mine under the passenger seat (I have aftermarket seats, I don't know if it'd fit with stock seats) and I love it.

Gumby, great minds must think alike! I have Finding Nemo in my DVD player as we speak If you can burn VCDs on your computer, you may want to try that as opposed to plugging the laptop into the DVD player. Most of these portable DVD players are VCD compatible and it saves you an input.
