you can easily test this with a small truck box that fits in the well... I moved it all around and tested the sound...

cleanest and deepest bass was rear-firing well
When you say rear- firing well box how do you mean? Sub is shooting towards rear of the car in the well?

Nice setup. But that Soundstream Bass Machine is trash. It makes songs that have bass sound like mud. But it's a good upgrade for heavy metal bass drums. Anything else that has true 50-150 Hz sound freq sounds terrible.

Aaahhh. I see. I've never seen an old one before. What I would like to have is one of the old school Rockford Fosgate amps. Those are true monsters.

Re: Let's see your custom speaker boxes!

I got a pioneer shallow mount box and cut back out to fit a regular 12in sub and boxed the back in.Its big enough to hold my amp and Cd changer. Will be getting a better sub(Dual for mock up and getting system working)and adding a small amp to run 6x9s in hatch area

Re: Let's see your custom speaker boxes!

This is my setup. Two MTX 12" subs were given to me; I found out one was blown. I remembered when I was younger, I had some Pioneer box speakers in my S-10 that had a 6" woofer and a slave 6". So, I went ahead and removed the magnet structure from the blown one, and made it a slave! The box is rather small (around .75) and fiberglass insulated for volume, but the slave moves opposite the powered speaker and makes it hit pretty good. I listen to rock and hard rock and you can feel the bass in your stomach, but most of it stays in the car.
I have a 400w Pioneer amp in mono powering this monstrosity!

Here's a new shot of the wall with a better view. Got the amp skins and you can see the Stinger batt int the 3f cap and 300a anl fuse. Dropped the ZX350.4 in the old pic as well as upgraded to 400w Pioneer 6x9s and new ZX650.4 with the ZX2500.1.

I switched to this set-up for a couple reasons:

1. The 6 x 30w A/D/S amp I was originally going to run everything from (4 x 30w and 1 x 90w bridged) didn't put out the sound level I was looking for.

2. I thought it would actually be much cooler to run an all period correct Alpine system if I could. These old Alpines are really great sounding and put out very decent power for their rated size. I may swap out the Zapco to an Alpine amp at some point as well.
