I need more bump up front!

I currently have Rockford Fosgate FNP2514 component speakers with 5 1/4" woofers in my doors. I installed slim style foam baffles behind the woofers and I still can't seem to get any noteworthy bass out of them at all, not even any midbass either. I have a Rockford fosgate amp 150s pushing almost 40 watts x 2.

I don't think these components are that great and am hoping to upgrade to a better quality component set with 6 1/2" woofers. I have risers that support either speaker size, but am limited to 2 & 1/2" top mount depth for the woofers.

The component sets I'm considering are:
Rockford Fosgate FNX2614U
or
Infinity Kappa 60.5cs

I think the kappas probably would be a better speaker overall, but I'm looking for some bass up front, just a little more than the crap I have now.

Does anyone have any suggestions? or other speaker recomendations?

Thanks

Eian

Are you sure the speakers aren't capable of the bass you want? Have you tried adding an equalizer box and using it to even out the spectrum and boost the bass?

I have an equalizer. It's a Clarion EQS560. There are two bass controls on it. One for 45 hz the other for 100hz center frequencies. Adjustable from -12db to +12db.
The 45 hz adjustment doesn't help much. I think the speakers only respond to frequencies over 60 hz. The midbass adjustment at 100 hz helps a little, but it quickly distorts at around a 2 db boost. When I turn on just my front components I hardly hear any bass at all.

I have my amp on all pass (not high or low).

I think the speaker size increase will give me more bass to begin with, along with a better quality speaker that responds to lower frequencies better.

component speakers have crossovers on them, the cutoff point of those crossovers but that would be why you arent seeing any bass out of them...they're arent designed to handle it. You could install some midbass drivers if thats what you're after

do you have a sub? if your system is setup right, your bass should sound like its coming from up front. next, components are not really going to have good "bump" from them because they are not designed to. the kappa especially are designed to do a good job reproducing frequencies only to around 100hz (maybe lower, but kappa's are known for lacking in the bass area).

Yeah I noticed that too, I have the 4x6 kappas up front and 6x9 kappas in my sail panel, and with the cross overs off on the amp, the front speakers are pretty punchy for 4x6's with 75 watts rms. The 6x9's are punchy and have a little more bass, but the clarity of them totally makes up for the bass issue. With my kenwood head, pioneer amp and 75watts rmsx all 4, it sounds pretty sweet, thats my sounds in my 89 formula.

Right now I have Kappa 3-way 6x9's in the rear deck, Fosgate FRC3369 6x9's right behind the front seats. So that's where i get my bass from. I have a two door datsun 510 and the door panels are flat. I also have a 94 Z28 (48k miles) and I used to have a 92 RS (very clean).

I am actually considering making my own custom speaker risers that space the speaker out just a small amount more than what I have now to support a component set with 6 3/4" woofers.

This is the set I had in mind: Rockford Fosgate FNX2614. It has a frequency response of 35 - 20k Hz which is similar to the response of my 6x9's. I bet these will give me that little extra bass I'm looking for.

Does anyone think I should look at any other component sets? I don't like the idea of kicker components because their efficiency sucks (I only have 37.5 rms x 2) and their woofers look like coaxials.

these are some good speakers...i just wish they werent so damn ugly. I ran 25X2 to my component set for a while and it wsnt too bad, so i dont think wattage should be a problem

if you really want "true" bass up front, you're gonna have to put in some subs. you could try some 8" subs up there as a 3-way comp setup, but you'll deffinately have to put them in enclosures (which can get difficult for doors). try a 6 1/2" 2-way comp setup, then add an 8" sub on each door. but with only around 35 or so watts (what kinda amp are you using?), its gonna be difficult trying to push bass out.
