i have 3 memphis 12's in the well. they are powered by a power acoustic 1100 amp. Soon to be a 1000d. so far the highest spl is 151.4 but i know it can go higher with some tuneing. The box is premade. i want to make a custom box with ports to be louder. i have a freind that had 8 12's in a 3 gen at one time. He only hit 158. my other freind has 3 mojo 12's in his 3 gen with 3 1000d's and he hits 158.5 with. so yes it can be done and they hit vary hard. good luck with yours.

sorry i guess after having 2 kids geting rid of my stereo **** wtf is memphis haha i've always used logic amps and audiobahn subs. with audio control eql eq guess i've been outa the loop to long
i've seen it done numberous times. what are you doing with the front of the car to counterweight it so the car sits right? only reason i put mine up in the front was to center all the extra weight. i'm assuming it sounds better where your going with them but all that weight in the back end bothered me to much.

get 2 15's...
You can't go wrong with 2 15's... they fit fine... and there is more overall subwoofer surface area with 2 15's than with 3 12's...
I guess it all depends on how much bass you want... I've already cracked my tail lights, and several chunks have fallen off of them... my driver-side mirror broke and now hangs free inside the casing... suprisinly enough my rear-view mirror is still attached to my windshield...
It's a shame our cars rattle so much, or I'd turn the gain up more than 30%... any more than that and I sound worse than a low-rider...
The only major drawback is that with a box this large you need to mount your amp elsewhere... I put mine in the spare tire well.... ALONG with the spare tire... somehow it fit...

not that this is important or even part of this conversation but you want the weight centered as much as possible. your not talking the weight of a nitrous bottle or battery. it hurts more then helps having it there.....either way you wouldn't be putting that in expecting to race anyhow.
get some pictures of it in the car!

Whoa!
whoa! you gotta do some real math here My86Firebird.... its fairly simple...
lets pretend that the speakers are somewhat flat, or a 2-D circle... which they are not, but that would simply give the 15" speaker even more surface area, but we won't worry about that right now. In any case the formula for the surface area is (Pi) x (Radius)^2 as which is true for any circle. If you truly wanted to measure the surface area, you'd have to get out some paper and form it to the shape of the woofer, then take it out and measure the radius on a flat surface, but that seems trivial to me.
Forgive me, I do not have a working calculator with pi functionality, but it is roughly 3.14
Now for your 12's we would set it up like this...
[ (3.14) x (6)^2 ] x 3 = 339.12 Square Inches
For my 15's it would go something like this...
[ (3.14) x (7.5)^2 ] x 2 = 353.25 Square Inches
So you get over 14 Square Inches more surface area to create bass, and the benefits are plentiful:
1. The bigger speaker can theoretically create deeper bass notes.
2. Since the speaker has more surface area you can use less power, (less excursion) to create the same exact bass note on a 12 inch subwoofer.
3. Easier to wire up because the loads are nice and even (2 speakers can run at 1ohm, 2ohm, 4ohm, or 8ohm... when 3 speakers run at something like 1.33ohm, or 2.66ohm... that means you're either over-driving your amp, or under-driving it.)
4. Two 15 inch subwoofers will most likely be cheaper than buying three 12 inch subs... Just make sure you get some with beefy magnets. Get some Kicker VRComps, they could easily break your hatch if you wanted them to...
5. Lastly, you can tell people you have 15's... People always get a grin on their face when you tell them you have two 15's...
Whatever, that's the truth of the matter...

3 12's will take up a goodly amount of space as well man, just about as much, but when you put ANY subwoofer face-up in the rear of our cars, you most likely aren't going to put anything else back there unless you want some screwed up subs...
whatever, 12's sound good to me, just means that my 15's are more rare.
