SYSTEMS HITTING over 140 SPL

Just wondering how many of you have hit over 140 db's with their car system, and what you used to hit it. right now i have 2 10''jensens 12'' MTX powered by a mtx 4 ch and a fosgate mono and i hit 136 db's at the local competition, So im hoping to hit 140+ this yr, but i don't know what exactly to get. Im hoping for 2-12's would be nice but unsure which as of yet. So if you guys hit 140 dbs i would be interested in what you have right now.

I havent been measured yet, but in my new box im hoping to break 140 without a sweat. Im gong to be running 1 15" poweramper xp^2 competition sub feeding it 1100 watts rms 4.5 cube box tuned to 30hz..yeah should be loud...

if you are looking for a good deal on some great 12's check out dayton DVC's good subs, a good price and a 5 year warranty

Well I had 2 Pionner 12" DVC subs with 1100 watts running to them. The best I got on the linear X meter was a 142. On an audio control I done a 145.7. Both scores are legal. I've just installed the box for my new setup which is 2 Orion H2 15's. It has took me lots of work to get these subs to fit in the hatch and have enough clearence. When I'm finished with this setup I post my new scores on the Termlab sensor.

First, the site is www.respl.com - I plan on getting some SE's for my Bird. XXX's are sweet subs, but to use at full potiental in a daily driver would make me go deaf in a couple weeks, and having the gains down so they're not as loud is just a waste of XXX's.

And about the box, it's hard to explain. It's not in the normal spot you usually see a box installed. It's custom fiberglass, done all for dB Drag competitions

I was able to hit a 154.1 with this set up. 9 15" MTX 6000 running off of 3 MTX Blue Thunder Class D amplifiers and it was legal and a sanctioned DB drag event.

This set up was not in my firebird but in my Dodge Daytona that has a bad engine and a lot of other problems so it probably will never run again.

almost any pair of halfway respectable 12s will hit 140dB with enough amp power. I hit 141.1 back in the mid-late 90s (before we did the whole "burping" thing) with a pair of Oz 300L 12" subs, which are about as far from an SPL sub as you can get. I also did this in a small sealed box, and these subs beg for a big ported box. Just give them enough power and you'll be surprised.

Aye?? Sorry, can you repeat that? :P

J/K

Some systems I have been exposed to that hit around this range and are not all base kinda sneak up on you.

Things seem nice and clear, they don't seem too loud.. but then.. slowly.. you start getting a headache.. then you feel a little queazy.. a little dizzy...

Hmmm.

Yes that is.. my brain.. now liquid.. pouring out of my ear...

I guess not everyone here realizes that just because you have a competition vehicle doesn't mean that you have it blaring at competition levels all day every day.

Yea I agree, not everyone but alot of people can't restrain themselves from blasting it if they got it. I myself would like to hear when i get old so I keep it to a level thats tolerable. Even saying this the levels I've already been exposed to have taken a toll on my hearing. So guys and gals PLEASE bump responsibily. That said Hope to C-ya in the lanes.

See, you wouldn't have to yell if your stereo was not so loud it's making you deaf, but it is your choice. We can play our music as loud as we want, but your going to have to pay for it later on. I would never ride in the car car with you, and if I did I would bring ear plugs.

I tend to like my hearing the way it is.

Hey there, this is my first post, I know it should probably be about my car but my stereo is mostly the highlight. I easily hit 149db with a 12" Alpine type R and a 10" both 4 ohm and two alpine MRV-T707 amps with 2 x 1 farad caps and extra battery, could have went louder, just need a bigger circuit breaker, two much draw on a 60amp breaker for 3 amps! I just recentley bought an Alpine MRV-1507 max 1500 watts, so we'll see how that does compared to two 600's.

I can garuntee that they dont, I mean i'm like the next guy. I like my music good and loud, but not too loud. I mean I draw the line somewhere, and that has to be at the point of hearing loss.

Polecat, I think your question got answered without actually getting the answer. Although, your question wasn't actually the one you asked anyway.

At least, I know that my curiosity has been satisfied.

ya the XXXs are very nice subs, im kickin myself that i didnt get them when it was time for me to buy. Now im just trying to find the airspace that my HCs need.

in these cars its not too hard to break 140, im going for 155 with this setup but that doesnt mean its going to be at that level all the time. I like the idea of having a nice warm rounded sounded stereo where you can feel the music for cruising then when the time is right you unleash the beast. Kinda like having a 10 second street car.

Im just wondering if i were to get 2 MTX RFL 12'' comp subs what amps would power them

www.mtxaudio.com

cause i saw one guy hit 151 db's in an alero with just 1 15'' mtx rfl so i figure i should be around that with the 1 15's but unsure what sort of amp/amps would be needed to do so. i belive they are duel voice coils, would a 2monos for both coils be best or would a 2 channel or 4 channel be better?

This is no different to the people who build engines with 3,4,500 bhp and beyond. Maybe all that power won't be used on the public roads, but it sure will at the strip.

Everyone has to have a hobby! Just my take on things.

I have a 500w sub and a pair of 500w 6x9s. Nothing special at all, but I don't compete.

the RFLs are pretty well known SPL subs. But its generally said that they shouldnt be used at all for playing music, they have no SQ to them at all and much too high of an Fs to sound good. Infact playing music with these subs is often what will blow them.

with that said if you're going for an SPL only configuration then go for it, you should have great results. Throw about 5kw at each sub in a big ported box and you're golden

Dude come talk to me on the KWF board or CCFBG board and I'll set u up with something good here in canada. I have helped Matt with his 35th Ani, Mystra with two of her cars both of which ran a DVD system(her TransAm hit 137.7 DB with only one 10" sub and the cars is set for just SoundQuality with her DVD setup not SPL), also helped Bam with his and FastEddy with his all from KWF, so feel free to ask them how they like there set ups.

Them RFL's are abit over kill for ya I think m8, you would have to loose your back seat to fit two of them and all your 1/4 mile dreams will go out the window, Hehehe. FastEddy plans to do this as one of his next stereo mods but he wants two 15" RFL's to go with the five 10"s he already has, and ya his back seats a going flying.

Do u know what RFL stands for??? Realy F'n LOUD!!!!! lmao

Oh and for hitting over 140db chk out Tim's ride, I helped design it.
http://groups.msn.com/TDZandFriends/...ly90irocz.msnw he hit 147db with just one sub amp hooked up and no power core connected yet. We just pulled it out of the shop for the drag half done then sent it back in to get finished. He has yet to do a db drag with both amps running properly.

RFLs are good SPL subs but you cant listen to them at all for daily driving. There are many subs out there that are just as capable in the lanes that actually have SQ to them.

try- DD 9500 series or 9900 series
RE XXXs or the new MTs (probably really pricey)
Treo CSX
Beyond Audio Inhuman if you can find them
the list goes on...

why was it a complete waste of effort? and hearing? what the hell did you hear? I never spoke anything. Or did you mean reading. It seems your about as good at reading as you are at spelling. I suggest you save your efforts for posts which have some point behind them!!

Just want to apologize to everyone else, I didn't want to turn this thread into a bitch fest, but when people say stupid stuff, they must be made aware.

This is coming from the guy, who started it all with a comment which should have been kept to himself, seeing as he's the only one who had a comment about my post!

If anyone else has anything to say about this please speak now, so I can accept the fact that it may have been a bad post, or don't say anything at all so hopefully KJ can waste his efforts somewhere else!!!!
