although thats a very good idea for saving weight, i dont think it would be too economical. I dont think you can make CF yourself very easily

i work at a bicyle shop (ima youngin) and i believe carbon fiber is made by adding layers.. i dont think it would be very strong for a subbox... You dont want broken carbon fiber in your interior! CF is nasty each stran has little barbs like a bee stinger. just touching a broken peice is VERY BAD!!... it would probably be over 1k worth of cf anyway.

Very vary Expensive. But if you want a box that you could Sit a car on this would Do it. It is proven that Carbon Fiber When Formend in to a curve or bends increases the strength. A bent componet made out of carbon fiber is 10 times stronger than Steel. No lie

Here ya guys go. http://www.fibreglast.com/

I dont have time to post a lengthy disscusion on a CF box right now. Expencive to do a complete box out of Yes. Worth it No.
Light Yes and No.
Your not beating the snot out of a Box You dont need the Strength of CF. As for bein lighter then a glass box. Yes and No. depending on the weave material you use.

If you just want the CF look. then do a MDF or Glass box and a Top plate outa CF

i got the solution , best of both worlds, make the box out of fiberglass and then make a top out of carbon fiber, the top would be just for looks or maybe you could make it one with the fiberglass.

Yes TPl383
That was exacly what i had i mind. Im really do not care about the wieght of the box. The bigest thing was that i really like the look of carbon fiber.

Also does anyone know how to make it? Is it the same process? Any idea how much it is or where to get it?

i believe carbon fiber would also resonate, which is a very bad thing for sub enclosures. if it were thick enough, it probably wont, but then you've put more $$$ into your sub box than your car.

Carbon fiber is just like fiberglass. It comes in sheets and you need to practice at it to make it how you want it. What you do is take a piece and layer another piece over it. This adds strength and thickness. Then you place it on like wax paper or something that wont stick on a flat surface and you cover it with resin and let it harden. Then you have your carbon fiber part. If you want to make something custom, you have to make a mold of what you want to make out of wood or something, then you coat it with non-stick material, then you lay in your carbonfiber and put in your resin, let it harden, then remove your piece. If you want to work with carbon fiber i suggest you practice a lot first to get it right. I know someone who got 3 yards of CF for $100 plus you have to buy resin. Thats a lot of money to mess around with if your gona mess up so practice with small pieces and you can make anything you want. Good luck.
