Uber Weird Setup

Ok,

I recently installed my new pioneer premier deck into my Trans Am and well, it sounds awesome. I heard some rattling in the back end. The rattling was caused by the carpet covering the speakers in the sail panel. I managed to squeeze back there and unhooked the sail panel and saw a weird configuration. There was a 4X6 and just below it was a 5" Subwoofer with a port. I checked the assembly and it is a boxed in 5" subwoofer. I will post a pic of this so you get a better idea.

When I powered up my deck, I turned the volume up and noticed that the woofer wasn't dancing. I was wondering. If I rewired the woofer to run off of a cross over system, would it work. I was thinking of getting a crossover and wire the sub to the low and hte 4X6 to the highs.

Well let me know what you think. I also play on putting a set of pioneer subs in the back end of my car. I got the subs and amps however I am missing one key component...the enclosure.

Well here is the pic. Lemme know what you think of my plan.

You could definitely wire it in with a crossover, I just wouldn't expect any low bass notes out of there. Calling it a sub is a stretch. Still, it would probably sound pretty good if the speakers are decent. The crossover setup I usually see in there is a plated 6" component with a tweeter through a crossover.

Well with the factory Delco system it put out some nice low end. No where near the power of a 10 or 12 inch sub but it did put out some decent bass. The bass controler sits on my dash so I was told. It has a push button to fire up a 40watt amp that is in my dash and that kicks the subs into gear. After I installed the new Pioneer Premier, the subwoofer button won't work. I press it but no light. I am guessing that the harness I used didn't have support for the factory "Performance Sound sytem".

i wish they still made those small subs. i had them in my GTA, factory bose system came like that. i think they only work with the factory stereo man, same with the steering wheel controlls. i read a post once about how this dude got the controlls working on the steering wheel but it was a lot of work. sure those subs arent blown? im suprised they still work after all these years... i think your best bet would be getting a set of the regular 6x9 panels from another car and using a 6x9 and if you wanted the sub action get one and stuff it in the trunk. thats what i did anyways. those boxes they used from the factory are kinda crappy. when i pulled the subs out i had a pile of what looked like cotton packed in behind it. with some normal 6x9s yourll prob get a better/clearer sound anyways. unless you get some component speakers back there

I got subs. Got me 2 10" Pioneer premier DVC Subs and 2 1000watt amps to power each sub. I was just thinking I could use them for extra noise...however I think I am gonna build a box to replace the box that the 4X6 and 5" sub is sitting in and replace it with a 6X9. That way I can get better sound and well...I think I am gonna mod the sail panel cuz it makes some nasty rattle sounds.

Those subs do work man. When I had the delco in there I put a CD-cassette addapter kit in the tape deck and played under the influence by the chemical brothers and turned those subs on and they performed the bass quite well. Well enough for my mom to come outside and say "Turn that down your gonna make the neighboors mad".

actually your best bet would be to make a plate for the sail panel to hold a set of comps.

Hmmm...never thought of that. I think I will go that route. Just modify the box thats in there, put a nice 6.5" Component speaker system...
