what is this

I was wondering what this is I wired it in and got confused with the proper terminology of this white cylindcrical item in the center of my stereo set up??

capacitor. Its supposed to keep your lights from dimming. But Id say just look got a high output alternator rather then that.

they mean bandaid because if you use one of those it is just a "bandaid" for more serious charging problems.

Its just one more thing that is using power that could be used to power your amps. Yes it can produce quick burst of power for a very short time but keep in mind that after that it will also need to be charged. In short its all marketing, take a low cost part flood it mainsteam with alot of hype charge way more than it cost and make alot money.

Well I had experienced my subs clipping my system to a point where my amps would completely shut off (above 45 on my volume especially when a low bass note hit at 500 watts rms @50 hz)and this totaly stopped after I installed my capacitors.
If I keep in mind that its also another thing that will need to be charged by my alternator I might as well leave my stereo off due to the amount of strain my speakers are putting on my amps via my stereo.
Truthfully any decent after market equipment is going to be pricy,a buddy of mine that competes pro spends tons of money on his sound and has " It costs to be the Boss." air brushed on his ride.
