Blown Headunit?

My CD player has recently stopped puttin out any sound. It would play it, but then cut off, but yesterday it came on for a minute, and went back out when i turned it up. Now all I have is Subs... I took out the CD player and used a Voltometer on the speaker leads, and didnt read anything, anyone know WTF?

Thx

My kenwood was doing the exact same thing in the tempo. Ends up that the ground I was using was too small and was causing the deck to overheat and shut down the internal amp. Solution I had was I ran a new ground wire to a piece of metal in the car using a larger guage wire. Fixed the issue for me. Give that a try.

If that doesn’t fix it, it's probably a bad amp IC, the most common way a HU will fail. 80% of the time it’s because of an improper installation. What's the make/model?

Pretty much. Then run the black wire to the nearest metalic ground you can find. The closer the better. Sounds to me like your stereo is kicking in its failsafe due to either overheat which can be caused by a bad ground or worst case scenerio there is a problem with your wiring somewhere and puting the stereo in failsafe mode. If the subs are still pounding and the highs are all that go out then I am 90% sure its the ground.

I tried that ground idea, it worked perfect, sound came back and everything, had it fully installed while listenin to it at low volume *subs+stepmom home=bitching* and then i went around the block so i could crank it, and it crapped out at higher volumes.... any ideas? It was a pretty fat wire on the ground. Where is a good ground in there? the place i put it didnt work, so i touched the origional ground wire to it and turnd it on, worked perfect, so i hooked it up how it was, didnt work, but it worked iwth both, whers a better ground, i used that metal piece bolted down with 7mm bolts,

Try getting some sand paper and sanding down the area that you are grounding to. That will give you the best possible ground.

The JVC finally giving you bad trouble? Might be bad solder connections inside, similar to what I am looking for in mine.

BTW, about two more days of testing and its going to be back together. How come you haven't been on AIM lately?
