Hey guys, i'm new to this forum and just got done building my sub box today and was gonna post some pictures for everyone to see. any comments are welcome, I do know that it's not perfect, BUT i worked very hard on it and i'm very happy with it. This thing made my whole system sound 10x better over my old 2 crappy boxes, no joke. but here's the pictures. any questions or comments welcome.

I'd say it looks pretty darn good, I'd like to tackle that project myself, but am financially challenged at the moment..lol..

But kudos to you...kind of nice that we don't have to worry about how aestheticly pleasing it is beneath that top plate, as long as it sounds good...

 

Looks good to me. Make sure you like the silicone cure for 24 to 48 hours before you put subs in the box. The gases that are produce from the curing process can eat away at the surrounds of some subs.

 

Thanks for the information, and as far as it being expensive. It was about $14 total to build this thing. $12 for a huge piece of 3/4" particle board, $2 for carpet from Walls, and i had the screws and silicone sealer already.

 

thats looks sweet, its not about the money for me but the tools i dont have any jiggaws or drills.

 

did you get particle board or MDF board, the MDF board is a higher quality particle board but it is better for sub boxes and helps sound.

Hope you dont mind, but i really liked the design of your box. So i made one the same. Except mine is alot deeper as it goes all the way to the bottom of the floor. ( Yours only seems to go halfway ).
Plus i put a Partition all the way accross the middle to make to separate air tight enclosures.

Got to admit though, it was a real bitch to make.

Anyway it sounds absolutely amazing. Really tight punchy bass and no rattles !!. Just hope my back window holds out !!.

hey, sorry for the late reply, it's been awhile since i've been on the board. This is actually my first speaker box ever to build for anything. It just took alot of planning and measuring to get it right. I was going to build it all the way down into the bottom of the trunk, but i figured that would complicate things alot more, plus i had all the air space i needed as long as the top part of it was slanted. The trunk has to definitely be the BEST place to put subs in these cars. Out of the way(unless you want to use your trunk), they look nice there, and no rattles. and Jovial, i'm pretty sure those are the same subs, they sound great in a good box with a good amp. Just don't try to push them too far over the peak. I actually sold those and my amp and bought some 1200 watt infinity's and am planning on buying an amp soon to push those pretty good. again, thanks for the compliments i'll be sure not to wait so long to reply next time.
BTW, nice car, and very nice looking setup Paul, I bet it sounds really good too. How many watts do you have going to those speakers?

 

It shouldn't matter how far you push your subs if you have it all set right. Crossovers too high will blow a sub like nothing were as putting 2000 into a sub that requires 500 shouldn't really cause a problem since the sub will only draw 500.

You just made absolutely no sense. You won't blow your subs by having the crossover frequency too high. Ever. It might sound like ***, but that's about all that's going to happen.

Secondly, subs don't "draw" anything. They just take the electrical energy SENT to them, and convert it to mechanical & heat energy. If your amp puts out 2,000 watts, your subs are going to be getting all 2000 whether they're able to handle it or not.
This is simple Ohm's law, and until you learn what that is and how to apply it, I'd be careful about giving any more advice.

I really like your box, and your whole setup, i'm not the one you sent the plans to. I just measured everything out and cut it to fit pretty much. and I did get the infinity's and also got a Rockford 501s which is definitely plenty of power for me(1500 watts peak), got a great deal on it too. I hope i can get a picture pretty soon.. but i'll be gone all next week. oh well, maybe someday, thanks.

 

you dont really want to look at the peak power of the sub. You want to look at its rms. playing a sub at its peak power is only punishing the sub. so usually an amp rated at a little more of the rms power is ok. just alittle gain turned down will be fine but if you wanted to punish them alittle turn the gain all the way up. just watch yourself playing a sub at its peak power.. it doesnt like it too much
