Stock Subwoofer & New Head unit dont mix "GOT IT TO WORK!!"

My factory subwoofer amp does not like my new stereo. When I power it up, it makes a loud noise and the light on the panel goes dim. Has anyone experienced this and have a solution to make the two work together. I would like to keep the stock sub amp working!
Is there an impedance mismatch or what? or is the power output of the new stereo too much for it.

Can I hook up the subwoofer output of the new stereo (line level) to the input of the stock amp?

Am I the only one that has tried this?

Please help!?

Well, I figured it out!
The power coming from the antenna power wire off the new head unit was not enough to drive the sub amp. So all I had to do was hook up the antenna power lead in the car to the same power supply that turns on power when the ignition is on and the sub amp works finE!
Yee HA! I love it, the sub works even better then with the original radio!

The only draw back is that the antenna is always up when the the key is on the acc, or running position, but I did not want to start cutting the factory wire harness just to have the radio make the antenna go up and down.

Thanks anyway for your suggestions!

stop right there.....

Do not even bother.

Last time I messed with an aftermarket HU in my T/A with factory subs....it let the smoke out of the stereo real fast!!

I never turned the subs on again, I even broke the pin from the switch so it would be stuck in normal mode.

I'm not sure why it smoked the stereo like it did, maybee it had been installed improperly or it just wasn't meant to be. After I upgraded to my Alpine CD player, I wasn't taking any more chances...

The Toshiba tape deck matched the orange glow of the dash perfectly well, but that's about all it did. I'm glad it went out in a blaze of transistor smoke!

If the factory subs are your cup of tea, then your entire system should be left factory. If you are looking for better sound, those 'subs' need either a small aftermarket amp (it's worth a shot) or remove the enclosures entirely (don't toss them, someone might want them) and install a component set or 6x9"

Trust me and anyone else who agrees, that 2 watt Delco amp is JUNK......not worth a second thought.

you can get amps for under 100 bucks that will work fine... maybe you should consider replacing those "subs" with some replacement speakers... some components of the same size
