Soundstream speakers Spl or Exact series??Help!

Hi, I am now in the process of buying a complete audio setup for my 91 convertible camaro. My previous system was stolen 4 years ago (eclipse, soundstream and Mtx) even the wires!!

Now I have Pioneer and Kenwood components and I want to go back with Eclipse and Soundstream speakers/amp... I was told that the Spl series is good in competitions, but the exact are better (by the seller). Can you tell me just how much difference there is and if Eclipse would be as good??? I want to install Eclipse 4x6 in dash, Soundstream 6 1/2 or 5 1/4 in kick panels and remain with the 5 1/4 at the rear passengers sides. After I have to make a decision for the subs/amps combo. If any vert owner have an Eclipse and/or Soundstream combination, tell me your settup

Sorry for the long post but I want to make sure you all know what I need...

Thanks in advance, Pat

Well to start off, it depends if you are going for sound quality competitions or SPL competitions.

In either case if your going to have speakers in the kick panels, just have them. The 4x6's in the dash will be overkill and you will not be too happy with the overall sound quality.

In regards to whether the SPL series is better than the Exact series... the Exact series is supposed to be a more acoustically accurate series. Soundstream boasted that for this series.

The SPL series is apparently aimed at loudness more than anything else. However, both products will be pretty close in sound quality IMHO.

If you have the money, go with the Exact series, if not, go with the SPL series .. you will not be disappointed.

Hope this helps.

O.K., I was told the same comments by an E-bay seller. He told me to go with the SPL in a convertible because they are 2 Ohm and louder than the Exact series. But he also told me that the Exact were the SS top of the line in sound quality...

My concerns is that there won't be any interference sounds when I lift the volume... I was also thinking in the Eclipse speakers, wich are well known for their quality but again, I was told by another dealer that their quality dropped year by year.

I don't built a competition system but I do want a high quality sound wich is hard to obtain in these Vert. My previous hardtop was easily beefed up..

Thank you for helping,

if you want SQ.. have you looked at Inifinity? They have some good SQ models.

Alpine is not too bad either.

These are the mids and tweets components I am referring to btw.

If you want good umph, rockford and Kicker has nice mids and tweets.

If you are looking at coaxial speakers.. then try JBL, Kenwood, or Rockford.

Also depends if you are intending on amping the speakers as well.

Soundstream doesn't have the same quality that they were known for a few years ago. Then again, their amps were really all they were known for even then.

I'd find a different brand. Unless you're just really hard for that brand, you can do much better elsewhere.

Thanks for all suggestion. Like I said before, I am also interested for Eclipse components. Are they any good and still have the clear sound quality as they had before?? I know that I should go to a dealer and ear it myself but reason why I am asking is because there is no more SS or Eclipse dealer in my area...

Infinity Kappa is a very good product but is more expensive than the SS or Eclipse?!? I am currently running Pioneer and Kenwood. I know there are different quality range with these companies but again, I also know that they are not the best on the market.

What do you think about the Cerwin Vega speakers then?

Thanks, Pat

Actually Soundstream is exactly the same quality that they were before, I Have a Rubicon series one amp and a series two amp, the series two came out after the company was bought out by poweracoustic, yet the circuit boards are identical, and in regard to the speaker question I had both the spl and the exacts in the past, if your running them off an amp definitely go with the exacts, off a deck then go with the spls, I currently have the alpine spx-177a components running off a Soundstream rubicon 702 and they are amazing.
