Decided to upgrade

I bought my car with no radio All I have is 2 pioneer 2 way 6x9's in the back. I pushed the cones up and down and I dont hear no scratch so I assume they are good. So what I'm doin next week is picking up a pioneer 50x4 deck, anything that is cdr/cdrw compatible, a pioneer 800w 2 channel amp and 1 or 2 10 subs, probably rockfordfosgates. I'm not sure what size speakers go in the dash, the holes appear to be fit for a 4-5 inch speaker, its an 89 TA, anyone know for sure? I'll probably also replace them with some decent speakers also.

Any suggestions on brands or setups would be helpfull. I'm totally new to sub setups. I will mostly be listening to metal, like disturbed, metallica, godsmack, etc, but i do listen to various rap artists and like the bass too. What I don't want is a system that plays all bass and the mids and highs are all drowned out by ****ty sounding bass notes.

Anyways, for what I listed up top I added the prices up and I'm in the ballpark of $500-600. I don't want to go any higher than that. How would this sound and would I need a crossover to keep the mids and highs seperated or will a 50x4w deck do that?

Ohh and one more ??? My car is pretty solid, but how are 89 TA's fr rattles? I don't want to sound like a garbage can full of rocks either.

The speakers in the dash are most likley 4x6's. I would advise you to go into an audio shop and listen to some set-ups, and pick out your favorites. If 50 people recomend setups you would get 50 different anwers. Go with what you think sounds best for what price range you want.

As far as rap I like GUnit, eminem and lots of other hip-hop and stuff.

Patience. Even though you might have a broadband connection to the interweb, people on BBS's should be given at least a day to respond to a post.

Anyway... I have a *totally* stock '91 Firebird COnvertible. The stereo, although adequate in it's day and still functionig today, ain't got a CD or MP3 player. Plus, it's that funky DIN mount that only GM cars used to have (you know, extra tall and not normal). Since I am considering a new deck in a convertible, I guess a detachable face plate would be good.

Any recommendations on where I can get a good deal on the net?

Go to a local audio store. Some of the bigger names where I live are best-buys, ultimate electronics, etc. They have all their equipment set up in rooms where you can listen to different brands and models and pick what you want. Otherwise you could listen to some of your friends systems. I like JL audio subs, Infinity speakers, and Alpine amps and recievers... but thats just me.

Get a good Pioneer head unit, drive the main speakers from that, use a separate amp and put a couple subs in the rear trunk well. Just make a board to cover the well and mount the subs there. Most Pioneer head units will control the sub amp and you'll can get good sound for not a lot of money with this.
