Adding 2 Speakers, in Kicks....
Hey, I've got an amp hooked up to my sub, and another amp powering the front 4x6's and the rear 6x9's. Now, I have an extra set of 6 inchers, and I was wondering how/if I could put them in some kicks. Like, the amp I have for the seperates is a 4 channel, so could I just run another small amp just for the 2 kicks? And then, how would I wire it? Would I split the rca's for the fronts and put them into both amps or what? Or run them in series with the front 4x6's?
Because the deck has 3 preouts (front, rear, and sub), so I need to figure out how to do it heh.
Any help here would be appreciated

i would buy a external crossover and split the signals off of that so you could give each amp a rca conection. then you could shape the frequencies that you would want to go to each amp.
ie
sub amp 20-250 hz
seperates 250-3k hz
highs 3k-20k hz
thats how i would fix your situation
good luck

Hey thanks man! I've heard of crossovers, and I know how they split signals, but, are you saying that with a crossover I could take all 3 preouts to it, and then from there, the crossover would have like more outputs than inputs and then I could go from there? Sorry, I don't know much about crossovers, and thanks for any reply
Why dont you just run the front 4x6s of the HU and hook the 6' into the 4 channel? that way you save money and all the hassle about crossovers and spliting RCA signals.
Thats how i set up my dads Vette and it sounds great. If anything you will need to keep the 4x6s power down cuz they usually wont hang with the 6's and 6x9s in the higher volumes
Just a thought

yes thats exactally it you nailed the idea. it depends on the particular crossover you would buy either a two way or three way
a 2 way splits the signal twice and the 3 way splits the entire signal 3 ways and that could be acomplished with only one set of preamp outs. but since you have three sets you could plug them all in to the crossover if it has that many inputs

I'd run the dash OR the kick speakers. Running both isn't likely to provide much benefit, but will almost definately ruin your imaging and soundstage.

I don't think it would ruin the soundstage much, but if I were you I'd at least try running the 4x6's off the deck first to see if it gets enough power... if not, then put them in another car maybe, or you could wire them in with the 6's in the same channel on the amp... depending on the ohm loads, if you know your way around that neck of the woods...
personally, my deck can deafen me with my kappa plates, but I cross them at 220+

In fact, the "spatializers" used by various electronics to widen a sound, or to make a mono signal sound like stereo, is just a comb filter that is slightly different for each channel. It spreads out the sound and makes it impossible to localize anything particular.

good to know... but I still recommend that he tries, one at at time, the 4x6's and the components running off the deck, to see which he needs to run of the deck....

Hey thanks guys, and yeah I was wondering if it would mess up my soundstage, and didn't realize it would that much. I guess, since I already have them, I'll at least install them in some kicks, and unhook the 4x6's and run the 6.5's only in front, and the 6x9's in the rear and see if that sounds any better than the 6x9 4x6 combo. You guys think the 6.5's will sound alot better than 4x6's? 'cause I don't wanna glass them and all if the 4x6's end up to be a better setup lol

it's common knowledge that the components will sound better, simply because the midrange driver is almost 400% bigger... it can reproduce the sounds better... my question for you is, are you planning on putting the tweeters in the kicks? because this is where I disagree with most people... everytime someone gets in your car they will block the sound...
the easy way would be, do this... hook up all the speakers to the amps except the 4x6s.... then run those off the deck... (if you have dual voice coils then you can even use the front and rear together and get some real power) and if they bother you, guess what? you can just turn them off by going in the options and turning off the internal amplifier (most stereos have this)... that way, if someone gets in your car, and you don't like the way it sounds, just turn on the 4x6s...
Personally I just don't see why would want to disconnect the speakers, especially since if you ever sit and listen to music outside your car, the 4x6's reflect off the dash and travel really far, the kicks won't do much in that aspect, and neither do the 6x9;s... just a thought.

Hey thanks scrap, that's a great idea, just having the 4x6's on internal power and then I can just turn them off if needed!!
But, I don't have components, sorry if I made it sound like I did. it's just a set of 6.5" Pioneer 4-way speakers. They seem pretty nice, and if I get a set of Focal components later I can always put them in place, and drill out a place for the tweeter.
BTW where would you suggest a tweeter? In the kick or under the dash or what?
And finally, where's a good place to get some fiberglass and the tools needed, I've never worked with fg before hehe.
thanks for any help

no problem... and I would say that most people put their tweeters in their kick panels... but only because it's easy.
The best place would be somewhere up high... to raise your soundstage.... in the door or somewhere on the dashboard would be the best possible location.
