box size question

i built a box to sit behind the back seats that measures about 40x11.5x7.5. i have two kenwood 10s with a kenwood 600 watt amp and a JVC deck. i didnt think it sounded too bad till i put one 10 with a 150 watt amp in my girlfriends cavalier. that thing sounds almost as good as mine. im thinking there is too much room for the two subs. i am going to put two dividers inside the box to cut down the size of it and separate the two. does 14x11.5x7.5 sound good or should it be bigger? the only measurement i can change (without building a whole new box) is the length.

Why don't you look up the recommended specifications on cubic feet then go from there? It would be a heck of a lot easier to figure up the cubic feet then just guessing and adding dividers.

here's a link to crutchfield
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-alpFd6q...wood+subwoofer

Here's another to a different site
http://boostcaraudio.com/index.asp?P...S&Category=454

Mainly you'll need to know the model type and match them up from there.

3/4. im not sure what model they are, theyre probably 3 years old or so. its an open box, no dividers right now. when he bought them they were one of those "buy one get one free" deals at circuit city, so im guessing more of a base line model. from the specs i went by on the new baseline models, the dimensions i mentioned should work, for a sealed box.

well if u put a divider in it it would be about 0.6685 cft per sub. if u can, pull one of the subs out and look at the magnet or the back in general, i would think they would have the model # there, then e mail kenwood and ask what size boz it needs. one thing to think about...a kid i used to work with put 2 12's in the back of his s10, it was just deep enough for the sub to fit (had to fit behind the seats) but it was the right size box and it sounded like complete ***, idunno if that was bcuz of the box depth or if it was just bcuz the kid was an idiot.

Using 3/4" material, my math tells me 0.634 cubes each Thats kinda on the small side for even a good 10" sub, let alone an older Kenwood 10". I'm betting the box is too small, limiting extension and output.

i should have specified that all my measurements were taken on the inside area, so you dont need to remove the measurement of the wood. so it actually comes out to be .69

if you measure inside, you don't need to account for material. if you measure outside, you do. In either case, the value should be identical!

eg: 40x11.5x7.5 are the measures given in the posgt.

-- 38.5x9.5x6 are the inside dimensions, accounting for 3/4" material
-- = 2194.5 / 1728
-- = 1.2699 cubic feet total
-- = 1.2699 / 2 = 0.63495 cubic feet per chamber

how did you arrive at 0.69???

14X11.5X7.5=1207.5/1728=.698
the 14" is how big each sectioned off box will be.
1728 is how many inches are in a cubic foot.
if ive figured any of this wrong, let me know.

the 40" is the inside, already accounting for the 3/4.
