Alternator whine
Hooked my amp up and now i have alternator whine. My first step was to make sure all my power and speaker/rca's were not near each other. I found out the guy that owned the car before me ran the amp turn on wire and the rca's TOGETHER = /, so i fixed that. It didnt fix anything.
Next was to check the grounds. Amp ground is securely touching bare metal on the chassis. And i tryed numerous ground for the headunit, everything seemed fine.
Next i checked my head unit power wire, i ran a brand new one, no change at all.
I tryed unplugging the radio antanna, no change.
The only things i have left is getting new rca's and maby the spark plugwires?
Where would i go to get noise resistant spark plug wires?
I'm so lost and frustrated, its driving me crazy.
Help,

I ended up getting frustrated enough to take the head unit from the dash and take it all the way to the back of the car and hook it up right next to the amp ^_^.
While the head unit was in the back, I hooked the ground up to the ground with the amp... NO whine. I was so happy. Next, i hooked up a piece of wire roughly the length it would take to run the ground from the original location to the current location. (hope that sounds right) And boom, whine, static ish stuff came back. I remember reading the ground shouldnt be more than 18" long which brings me to my next issue.
Where is ground my head unit that it wont be picking up any interference? I also dont believe i'll be able to run it to the amps ground without problems.
Idea's and thoughs welcome.

I'm thinking there's more going on here. One, DON'T have the amp touching bare metal. The ground wire needs a good connection but the amps chassis should NOT be touching metal. Fix that. Next, what's the make and model of the HU? Do you have a DMM/VOM? Do you know how to check resistance/continuity?
I would not run the radio ground to the rear of the car. If there's anther problem that doesn't get fixed that could make things bad, vary bad.
