Sub suggestion.. and wire question.

I got a 300watt amp and a 6.5in bass tube(ghetto i know) right now for my low end, but it dont hit hard enough for me. What subwoofer would hit nice and hard with 300watts and it farily cheap? Also .. i ran a 8 guage wire for my power for my amp (Its properly grommeted and fused) is that a big enough wire? It seems to work fine i just want to be 100% sure.the ground wires is also 8guage and about a foot long.

thanks

Its an amp off ebay. I dont remeber the name at the moment i could get that to ya tommorow. I wanted to be able to conceal the sub and encloseure. Would i be able to get a lot of bass from a stealthbox type enclosure?

I have one 10 in my spare tire well, if it were a better sub/amp combo it would pound pretty hard. I would look into that. If you could fiberglass a box for the spare tire area you would be much better off, that is what i am going to do when i get the gta rollin again

The power rating of the amp doesn't really tell you much. My Phoenix Gold is "rated" at 200 watts, but uses a 50 amp fuse. You need to go by the fuse size on the amp when figuring out what size wire to run. If your fuze size is 40 amps or less, you'll be fine with 8 AWG wire.

ur not talking about my old girls the M series amps, are you? and the game of dramatically underrating amps is all but done....so i'm thinking its an older PG amp fo sho....

either way, he's right. using simple ohms law, you can tell just by the fuse as to how much power the amp will REALLY make. In jim85's case, the amp has a 50A fuse on it. 45 (just down from fuse blowing) x 13.5 (running voltage) = 607.5 watts. Clearly not 200 Using that logic (amps x volts = power) do the math urself.

600 watts of power consumed. That doesn't translate into output power though. Remember that a typical class a/b amp is only about 50% efficient, so if your amp makes a legitimate 600 watts, the amount of power CONSUMED is likely to be double that. Then you get into issues of over-rating, under-rating and all that crap, which is why it's just easier to go by the fuse size. After all, how much power is going through a wire isn't important anyway... it's the current that's important when choosing size, and a fuse is the best indicator of that... although I actually have heard of some of the low-end audio companies using oversized fuses too.

I recently bought an 8 AWG amp kit also, but now since reading this post I don't know if I bought the right one. I just checked my amp and it has two 30 amp fuses. So I'm assuming we take that as a 60 amp fuse? I guess I made the mistake of buying an amp kit by looking at the RMS rating also because the amp is rated 200W X 1 @ 4ohms RMS. Should I buy a 4 AWG kit?

With 60 amps worth of fuse, I'd definately say that you should have a 4 AWG kit. What amp did you buy? 200x1 with 60 amps worth of fuse is a bit strange.

The amp is a pioneer premier prs-x320. I bought it a couple of years ago expecting to use it to power one 10", but I never got around to it. I bought it thinking I was going to buy the fiberglass stealth box that Rezn8r was building, but then he left for iraq. Recently I got to thinking about building my own fiberglass box, which is why I bought the amp kit. Guess I should've bought a 4 awg kit. I had read some really good reviews about these amps and really liked them when I saw them installed in a pioneer show vehicle a few years back powering their premier tsw-12prs 12" subs. I'm hoping to build a fiberglass enclosure soon so I can finally put this amp to use.
