you take off the dash pad, using a 7mm socket. there are several located on the underside of the dash where it over hangs the cluster. also over on the passenger side. there are also 4 bolts near the front where the pad meets the windshield. they are located where the heater comes through the dash.

once you remove all those the dash lifts off pretty easily. you will be able to see the speakers and the 4 bolts holding them down.

its pretty easy, dont be scared to do it. they are 4x6 speakers for your reference.

No, its definitely a 7mm socket. Most of the fasteners in our interiors are metric.

for me there were 2 different sizes...

most are 7mm, but some are 10mm, but those might be for some other interior panels around the computer location... but for sure they are metric. And it only takes about 5 minutes for a first-timer... just DO NOT DROP THE SCREWS IN THE DEFROSTER!!! Cuz they're friggin' gone--Forever... I lost a 12v switch in there, that was sitting on my dash and I bumped it--never to see it again.

Man, I don't think I could deal with the vibrations if the dash was hardly screwed on like that!

That's, uh, neat. I would have put them in the kickpanels though... how do those speakers sound aimed up at the windshield? I know that's why I hate the 4x6"s!

wow... I'd like to smack you... but if that sounds AMAZING then maybe you're on to something... but man that looks.. bad, sorry to say.

I guess that's a good cheap route though... some people would have just put some HQ 4x6 plates instead... as those ARE components

Anybody tried to mount Infinity Kappa 4x6 plates in the dash? I have a 91 T/A and the passenger side fits fine, but the drivers side has a huge section of the guage cluster in the way... any ideas or comments from those with experience in this issue? Many thanks!!!

yup either use spacers to raise the plates, or cut away 'til it fits, then use duct tape to repair the ventilation areas.

I just installed some Clarion Phaze 1 6x9s in the sails, and in the next few minutes i'm going to drop in my Infinity Reference (woulda got Kappas, but for $12 new on ebay, it was the better deal) 4x6 plates. got a Clarion 4 chan in the trunk powering it all. i love installing new gear... oh ya, except that it's been a PITA in my 89 Formula thus far... how i can't wait to remove more trim panels and run RCAs and speaker wire behind em

$12 bucks... not bad. I think I paid $70 for my new kappa 4x6 plates... been busy at work so haven't gotten them in, but I can't wait to hear those speakers scream!
