Front Dash Speaker Advice Needed!
I think I screwed up. I just bought and installed one of my set of Kenwood KFC-4675C 4x6 speakers in the front dash (leaving the Delco in the other side). I cranked it up expected to hear drastic improvement over the factory Delcos (1992 RS Conv). As I adjusted the balance back and forth between the right and left (fader set to front speakers only), I really couldn't tell much difference between the Kenwood and Delco. It didn't sound to me like the Kenwoods handled the bass that well either.
I don't have an external amp, just a 45Wx4 Pioneer deck.
I rushed over here and started scanning the posts. Seems like everybody recommends plates. Guess my questions are:
1. Is it my imagination? Are the Kenwoods actually better but I can't tell because I'm fading back and forth between the fronts?
2. Do I need to get bass blockers?
3. Do I need to go back to square 1 and buy some plates?
4. Will plates perform well off of 45Wx4 head unit power (I really don't want an external amp).
5. Is it hopeless getting decent, full sound out of small speakers, even if they are plates?
Answers to any of these questions and, as always, your advice in general are greatly appreciated!!!
As a side note, I haven't changed out the backs yet ... they are my next step. I also thought about 5 1/2s under the dash, but sounds like it might get messy (Hate to tear up the car -- it is in great shape).
Thanks!!!
Brian

don't bother with the dash speakers they are too small to hear a difference or get any better sound out of i would go with some custom kick pannels which are quite easy to build if you do a search you will find tones of info and pics on how to do this. i would go with 6.5 coaxials or speaker and tweeter this will give you way better bass and sound for your $
