Question about installing peel and seal.
I went to Lowe's and picked up some peal and seal today as a cheaper alternative to the overpriced dynamat. The search button works wonders
. Anyway, in my searches, I read that it is better to use a hair dryer/heat gun when you are installing it. My questions is you cut the peal and seal to fit the panel you want to cover(duh!) but do you remove the backing first, install the peal and seal, and then heat it, or do you have to remove the backing first, then heat the backing before you install it? I just want to make sure that I am doing this right the first time, so that I won't have to do this again. Thanks for any info on this.

Clean the surface you want to install it to. Carb cleaner works well for this. Peel the backing off the stuff, install it, press it into place firmly and evenly. Heat it, then press it again (preferrably with a roller). You'll feel the difference. It's going to be very hot and squishy, so using a roller will really bond it well to the surface.

You may not want to put peel'n'seal on vertical or upside down surfaces if you live in a hot climate. Heard stories of it falling off and leaving a stickie mess behind.

86iroclamarque:The roll that I got was 36 inches wide by 33/5 ft long. It did all of my floor pan, headliner area, and rear seat area(for today at least) and I still have a heck of a lot more. Will be doing the rear deck area and the trunk sometime soon. Ooops, I forgot to mention that this is on my sunbird, I mean camaro, yes, camaro.
does this stuff work just as well as dynomat? Also..does it double for insulation? I mean the stock crappy padding thats under the carpet and back seat, will this stuff just replace that and help reduce noise and insulate? How much was your roll? Thanks

I'm curious to hear from someone who has had this in their car for a while and how the peel and seal compares to the dynomat side by side.
I'd hate to put that in to save a few bucks and regret it later.

Dynamat Extreme is prolly one of the best there is. But it costs $$. There are other cheaper products like brown bread or second skin that are popular. Peel'n'seal was never intended for car sound dampening duty.
