Don't play it loud near your home or before you park at stores. I find the less you show your system off the better you are. Also showing the system off to stranger or even friends sometimes leads to it being stolen. The better you can hide the system from plain sight the better. I have had a system in a jeep wrangler for going on three years with a soft top using these methods. Alot of people have systems to show off and thats what gets them stolen.
Yup, #1 is to be smart about where you play it. This will probably be the most effective at keeping you safe. General rule of thumb, if the thief wants it, he's gonna get it. Our cars are particularly easy to break into because there are no window frames on our doors. The trick is to make it as hard as possible to try and deter him/her. If its gonna take a long time, they'll probably pass on it. Here's some other things to consider: Get tint so they cant see the sound equipment or the interior locks, shave the keyholes so they cant screwdriver in, mount all your alarm wires inside the shell if possible, nothing hanging by the wheelwells where it can be cut, if possible do not mount the alarm in the engine bay, and always be sure to park in good spots. I always try to park by a camera (mall camera or whatver).

All are great points, but also try to park near brand new cars or other custom cars or cars that are usually stolen (like Honda Civics)... that way the theives might not even look at your car.

never "bump" or have your stereo very loud within 10 miles of your actual home.
you of course dont have to listen but in case someone around you thinks its nice and wants it, they dont know where u live to take it.
oh and never go around malls and such wiht LOTS of people "showing off" your stereo if you plan on going inside for a few hours. it might not be there when you come back.

Well put by everyone. Dont bump in reisdential neighborhoods or if your gonna be parked for more then a few minutes. Bolting it down is a good idea. But if your in the middle of the mall you aint gonna have enough time to catch a thief.
