Need help with Bose
I tried using the search but wasn't very successful, sorry.
I have an 89 IROC with the Bose system, I already bought an amp, subs, capacitor, and head unit. I'm gonna buy some speakers, but I didn't realize my car didn't have them in the sail panels. I guess I'm going to re-wire the whole car, but should I do for speakers? I'm just going for a nice sound, not trying to be loud and **** people off. Thanks,
Matt

There's plenty of room in the sail for an 8" driver or smaller, so the choice is up to you. I would personally stick something back there for some midbass (6"-8" woofer), that way you won't throw your image too far back.
Your other option is to leave the sails empty and get a nice set of front speakers. After all, it's better to have one good set of speakers than two average sets. Keep in mind that you will be hard pressed to find anything that will fit the bose kicks, so you will be either making or buying your own.
If you want to put 4x6's in the dash because you don't want new kicks, your best bet is to put something in the sails since the 4x6's wont produce any midbass.

Be sure to post your findings. I'm sure you have a plate back there, the only question is what hole is already cut in it.

Good or bad news? I'm so new to car audio stuff, just couldn't stand how bad my stock stuff sounded.

Weird news. I have no idea what I'm looking at. My GTA has a flat piece of silver steel where that funkily shaped black thing is.
Is that black piece metal?
This is what it normally looks like, minus the plastic trim and the piece of metal that holds the speakers:

There is normally a metal sheet that covers the hole and screws into the four screw holes you can see on the sides of the big hole (one of the screw holes is blocked by the seat belt).
If that black thing is metal, you should be able to cut whatever hole(s) in it you want to. If it's not metal, pull it and cut a piece of sheet metal that will fit the hole.

bose
The bose cars never had sail panel speakers so you have to get the 6/9 adapter metal plate that has 4 screws to mount the6/9 speaker to fit them in, in some of the early 87-89 cars the sail plastic is not even cut out, on my 90 bose gold car the sail plastic is cut out, as for the wiring it is easier to rewire the sterio the way you want it, not using the bose harness at all, as it is only speaker wires to where the speakers are going to be, or you car jump the speaker wires as you need them, you are still going to spend the same amount of work to do that to run pwr and acc wires for the aftermarket amps, as the bose trigger wire w/pwr is powered off the radio via a relay powered through by the radio on pos. not acc or ign, radio on. good luck w/the install as my two irocs retain the bose stuff and when functioning properly is a very good sound, but not on the stage by the speaker, which it is good enough for me. the wiring diagram is available on line and can be used for just the speaker wires.
