I took it off and cleaned the contacts but still does the samething.

check the contacts on the deck to see if any are pused in to where it wouldnt make contact with the face, also check the contacts on the faceplate for dirt or corrosion. if none of those work some sony decks have a reset button behind the face on the deck or on the face try pressing the button in for a few sec and try resetting the deck, if there is no reset you can try unplugging the harness from the back of the deck.

If none of those work then i'd say its the face or something in the deck has gone bad.

What the model number? Theres an alignment for some of there HUs. Shouldn't be a reset problem.

No alignment for that one. Just a bad ribbon cable to. The black ribbon cable to the faceplate on that one goes open ALL the time. If it's still under warranty, send it back to get fixed. Stinks that a $10.00 part F'ed you. But VARY common on ALL the black flip face Sonys. Sorry for the bad news.

so you mean even if I got another faceplate it still wont work? its internal in the unit?

Well a little internal and a little external. A new faceplate probably will not help. Let the face fold up and look under the right hand side or the faceplate. It may help if you then take the removable portion on the faceplate off at this point. You’ll see a small flat ribbon cable, it’ll be black and go from the gray part of the faceplate into the HU. These fail all the time on these unit’s and cause just the problem you’ve described.
