The hardest part at first was coming up with a design that fit perfectly. Too big is useless, and too small can move around. It took me a few tries to get that perfect fit, but now once you drop the box into place, you can try to move the box back and forth and the whole car moves with it. Once that was taken care of, the next hardest part was cutting and assembling the box with consistancy. I've gotten much better at that as my skills increased, but I also modified my design so that the critical dimensions can always be achieved during assembly, then excess on certain boards can be trimmed off to result in a perfect fit. There are still a couple pieces that have to be custom fit for each box due to variations in assembly. My center divider and end pieces wind up being measured and cut based on the box, not on a predetermined template.

The angled part is cut with the proper angle, then glued, screwed and clamped into place. This piece is what took the most practice to get good at, and is also one that I cut in a certain way so that I can just trim off the extra after part of it is glued into place. That results in a good fit every time. Nobody wants to pay $250 for a box that's got any gaps filled with silicone.

For me the easiest way is to make your ends first that will hav the angle on them and adjust your blade to this angle. Also make sure if your using a handheld circilar saw make sure you use a fence of some sort to keep a straight line.

how much do you charge for a box? and how much airspace can you get out of a well box?

It depends on what you consider economical. Shipping tends to range from $50 to $80 depending on your location.

i started making my own box off the plans in the sticky. i've got 2 rl-p 12's that like to see 1.25 cubic feet net. (that means with the speakers figured in right?)
they displace .36 cubic feet together. so im shooting for about 2.8 cubic feet, and i believe the box shown there has about 2.3. what i want to do is have the bottom part at the well come 3 inches further over on the drivers side, and make the top piece of the box about 2 inches higher. have you tried this, or do you know of any other tricks to get another 1/2 cubic foot?
also, about what angle do you use on the front piece?

My boxes fit the well space precisely, taking into account the different amount of overhang on the left and right sides. If a box is symetrical from left to right, it gives up a lot of airspace. My box also takes advantage of the space underneath the hatch pull down motor. I'm not sure if the one in the sticky does or doesn't, but that would make a difference as well.

I use a 45* angle for the front section of the box. It makes construction easier, and it's a close-enough match to the angle of the car.
