Alpine CDA-9811... Making the buttons amber?

I cant believe im having to post this, lol...

Ive owned a bunch of different Alpine decks over the years, and most of them have some funky combo of buttons you push, to turn the illumination from standard Green to Amber.

Ive gotten it to work on all of my decks aside from this one. It turns Amber when your in the menus, but i cant find the option anywhere to change it to Amber constantly.

I looked in the manual and cannot locate it either. What, did they do away with that option for the model year or something? Anyone know how to do it? I dont care much, but its f-ing annoying...

Try going through the menus on your head. On my 9833 there's one called illumination. It changes the button four main button colors. If you hit the band button it will change all other buttons that are normally green to red.

If all else fails, check your user's manual. I even downloaded a copy of it for you because I'm bored. Far too lazy to read it myself though.

the 9811 only changes to amber in the menu.

you would've had to get the 9813 or 9815 of that model year to get the option you're looking for.

If that's really the case you might want to look around to see if someone did a firmware 'fix' for that. I've never looked into altering headunit firmware, so I don't even know if that's a possibility.

Thanks. Thats what i figured. Not a huge deal anyway i suppose, im borrowing this head unit for awhile from a friend. It just would have been nice to have it amber. How odd of them to do that though, i mean... They already turn amber in the menu, lol...

I think the idea was to seperate the color-changing ability into a higher price-point deck ... as many people buy their head unit based on appearance first and features / quality second.

Smart thinking on Alpine's part, but lame nonetheless.

Yeah, i guess its understandable, im just surprised they went and put the capability in there (the different colors) and then just left out the option. The 9813 and 15 got nicer displays anyway, lol.

I personally wouldve gone for the 15, for that reason and a coupld of others, but this was my friends deck. He totalled his car, and bought a new car with a nice factory setup already, so its on loan till i find something new that i like...

hey a 9811 is nothing to scoff at .. especially if you get to borrow it for as long as you need.

but yeah the 9815 is my personal favorite deck to date.

Well, he doesnt need it... indefinetly, and hes not hurting to sell it, so he didnt mind. I havnt had the car out in years, so i have no deck for it (its in the daily driver).

I like it, but i cant find anything im nuts about from the new model year yet. Some of the specs on the new Alpines are a little off, for some reason... And theyre getting flashy, too flashy. Like XPLOD style, lol...
