Component sets have tweeters/crossovers built in. A tweeter running off your head unit aside from other speakers running off it will sound bad. If you need to do door speakers.(component set) or kick panels.

wiring isnt a big deal. Panel arent hard to remove. Id have him look into a c. set though before randomly placing a head unit powered tweeter without any kinda of crossover network.

okay, correct me if i am wrong. but a 'compenent set' would be like the 4x6's and the 6x9's that have a built in tweeter? and as far as the wiring, that not really what i was concerned about. more on where and how the wires hook up to the head unit.

he said something about running the wires from the dash speakers. how would this work? that sounds like the stereo wiring in my room, 3 speakers playing from one port, and an junk 8" car sub from the other port. haha.

You are thinking of coaxials...

Coaxial:

Component:

By the way, not recommending those necessarily, totally random.

yup what he said. Component sets offer much more of a clean sound the coaxs can. because the sound is sepperated and the woofer only plays certain freq and the tweeter play only certain freq plus when you amp them you can fine tune it to sound as you want.

Like I said dont bother with the 4-6s in the dash. Find an opening in your door/kick panels to fit. 6.5s or 5 1/4s. If you dont take too many passengers you might be able to do away with 6-9s and save the money more towards your component set which might be a little pricey even on ebay.

Throwing speakers in randomly sounds bad. I wouldn't want treble blasting from a few inches away from the ceiling either. Seems to be totally pointless.

First, like others said, you need a comp set... meaning, it has a tweeter, woofer and a crossover. If you search hard enough, you can find a tweeter set with a 4" woofer, which will fit in the 4x6 speaker location in your dash. However, if you have AC, you might need to do a little bit of modification on the drivers side to get it to fit in properly... which isn't that big of an issue. It really depends on how deep the magnet is on the woofer.

I have a set of Rockford 4" comps in my car... however, I decided to install the tweeters in the A-Pillars. I had to do some modifications to make the woofers fit in the dash. If you decide to get a bigger pair, you'd have to make some kick panels... if you were to go that route, I would personally just put the tweeters down in the kicks, instead of up in the headliner.

If you decide to go with a 4" set of comps, and put the tweeters in the headliner, installation would be rather simple. I chose to mount my crossover underneath the dash - it's not that hard to get to, but out of the way, and realative to the location of my speakers/tweeters. You would run the wire coming from your headunit (or amp if you're running these from an amp) to the crossover. From there, one set of wires would run to the woofer, and the other to the tweeters. I believe the easiest way to get the wires up in the headliner without seeing them, would be to run them beside the dash (tuck them behind) and then up through the A-Pillar, and then under your headliner to wherever it is that you decide to mount the tweeter.

Prior to deciding where you're going to mount the tweeters, I'd do a "preinstall" and just hook everything up lose. Hold the tweeters up where you're interested in putting them, and also try out some other locations to find a place that they sound best to your ears. Depending where you mount them, the highs might be over-bearing, and it will make your system sound like ***. After working that hard to do a custom install, it would seriously suck if that was the outcome.

Hope that helped!
