best speaker locations for best sound
best speaker locations for best sound
This probably has been brought up before and i tried to search for stuff but didn't really know what to search for.
What are the best locations to put all speakers including 2 subs inside a thirdgen?
I am planning on getting 4th gen TA door panels to put the front speakers in, is this a good idea?
I'm not sure what to do with the rear speakers. Should i keep them in the sail panels and/or put speakers in the rear of the car like the 4th gens?
My two 12" subs will be in the rear of the car.

No matter where you put a speaker, there will be pros and cons. Most of us agree though that the kick panels are the best location for front speakers. It will give you the best imaging and the best soundstage. The drawbacks are added difficulty, cost, and in most cases, an uneven frequency response in the midbass area.
Do a search for kick panels and you'll find a bunch of very detailed threads that will give you more than enough information to help you decide if kicks are right for you.

i think i'm going to keep my infinity kappa 4x6's in the front, they're good and loud, they're pretty much all i have for highs right now, my 4's are turned way down.
for the rear, after i get a new amp, thinking about an orion 8004 to replace my 35x4, i think i'm going to build small sealed boxes to fit into the 6x9 slots. i want to run a good 6.5 inch component but might have to go a little smaller. leaning towards adire koda's, they seem to be pretty popular. anyone built an actual box for components in the rear, because i want good midbass response?

its not recommended , jim correct this if im wrong, because most car audio speaks are design for IB type usage which lends its self to a higher Q(right??). if you build enclosures you will prolly get some horrible Freq response

You can build an enclosure, you usually just need to make it really big.

It entirely depends on the individual speaker, but in many cases I'd say much larger than that.

Hey, Im new to this site, but what I did with my 88 firebird, is bought some 6.5" components for the front door---ya, it was a squeeeze- and mounted the tweeter up in the dash where the 4x6 speaks are. I choose to do this because I wanted the range of a 6.5 and I did not want the puny and easily distorted sound od a 4x6. If you are worried about rear speaks...dont buy any, use the money for a nicer amp or sub, or engine mod, etc. all imaging is supposed to come from the front and the cabin is so small the front speaks will be loud enough for people in the back.

hey fishboy... rear-fill sounds amazing to me...
when's the last time you went to a movie theatre and demanded to hear the soundtrack from the two front speaker panels only?
rear-fill wins.
wanna fight?

Alright, when is the last time you went to a concert and the band played behind you? It was just a suggestion, I do use a pair of 6.5 coaxials for rear fill, I dont like 6x9s SQ is not near as good as 6.5.

For the most part, components do sound much better... although I really love my blaupunkts in the rear...
at a concert, the music is so loud you usually cannot even tell where it's coming from!
I can't hear very well for days after going to a concert...

if I only have the front speakers on... in my car, or in my living room... it seems to lack dynamic range... I don't know why
I do know that the brain processes vibrations on the skull from the rear fill which can make it sound better... to most people.

no, the skull vibrations only give you a sense of direction, and I believe the brain can understand much harsher vibrations, without being confused.
