amp and sub install questions..

hows it going alll, i have hooked some systems up before on cars with aftermarket decks and headunits, but my friend wants me to install a system on his 97 explorer and all he has is the factory cd player right now, seeing it doesnt have rca jacks in the back, how would i run them to the amp, and also where is the remote wire hooked up to? any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

You'd need a "Line Level-To-RCA Converter" for the amp inputs. For the remote wire, there may be a wire which comes alive when the radio's on such as an antenna wire. If you cannot find any wire that's live with the radio, you'll probably have to tie into a fuse which is powered only with the key on, but this is not the best idea since the amp would always be on with the key on (and sucking power) even if the radio were turned off.

Some amps come with internal line level to rca converters built in like this. You won't find many serious amps with them, but then again if you're going to be running anything that high quality you won't want a line level to rca converter anyway.

Just for clarification, it's a speaker level to line level converter, not a line level to RCA converter. Also called a line out converter or LOC.

Hey! That is right...I knew something sounded off when I said it...

I believe RCA is a tradename when referring to cables, isn't it?
