Best Non-Amp Set_Up?
I recently started into racing and have put my jl w3's in my gf's car. I didn't remember how shi%%y the stock speakers were, even though i have a 200 watt alpine head. Well my question is this, what would be the best speakers to use to make my system sound good again but without an amp. I have a way of getting alpine type-s 4x6 & 6x9 for cheap but not sure if they are as good as i want them to be. So, does this sound like a good system or should i buy some other speakers. And i really don't want to buy kicks. What's the best sounding rock speakers and what's the best bang for the buck. Oh yeah, and i can basically get the speakers for $50.
Thanks for the help, even if i get redirected to a site i missed.

if you just want something to listen to in your car, i'd go ahead and get the alpines, but it wont be an audiophile system, or what i'd consider good sounding. any chance you could hook them up in your car before buying them to see if you like it?

i too am not a big fan of amps, but i do kno they make stuff sound way better, and to metion louder...
b's90cam is right about your alpines 200 watt being max power - dont trust that because it is missleading, look for what the stereo can do in RMS, for example, my alpine 9831 says maximum power is 200 watts but rms is only 18 watts perchannel, while my 9835 also is 200 watts max but 26 watts RMS perchannel... So in short you want to buy speakers that dont have minmum power requirements, or else it will sound like crap at high volumes due to the stereo's amp clipping... (not enough power to power speakers) My grand am does this because i put speakers that require at least 40 watts of power...
So essentially, go with the entry level speakers from your brand of choosing, i prefer boston accoustics...

A friend gave me the 6x9's, i put them and they sound good until 25. They don't get squeaky or squeal, but they sound muffled. Are they underpowered? I might buy a 400 watt amp afterall and just hide it in the spare tire's spot (not only did i want to get rid of the weight but i wanted to get my t-tops to fit again and have a trunk). The fronts are so blown they hurt my ears from the static still though.

ya my alpine is the same way, around 25 the rears just dont sound right but thats cause the amp is underpowering the speakers...
the only time ive ever heard a aftermarket stereo sound good at full volume is with the stock speakers in it.. if u dont want to buy and amp look into gettin some chrysler infinity 6x9s out back...

The rms on the 4x6 is 25x2 and the 6x9 is 50x2 for a total of 150. Any alpine amps work good. I would like to keep it all the same. No reason though do would consider a different company.
