I would think any competent audio shop could easily make you a custom subwoofer box for your car, but you are probably going to pay a pretty penny for it and quality control is always an issue.

try ebay, you can get one that is made out of 3/4 mdf for around 70 shipped. I got one, very good quality, sound, and fit.

let me know the mounting diameter. i've got a sealed box for 2 12's thats about 3 cubic feet without speakers, 2.6 with them. wanting to sell it to help finance some 15's. i built the box, but i've built more than a few sealed boxes before, and its a really nice and sturdy box. i can get some pics if you'd like.

screw custom boxes. they cost money and take up more room. just get yourself a 2x4 and some carpet and make a baffle board that rests on the ledges of the trunk, like mine...the bottom of the trunk acts like a "box"

Plates suck. The only people who like plates are people who have never had a properly built "custom" box. The difference is astonishing, but most people think that because the stereo in their friend's car with a pair of 12s in a sealed box doesn't sound as good or as loud as their plate, that plates are ok. What they don't mention is that their Buddy's stereo consists of 2 Volfenhag subs in a .0001 cubic foot enclosure that his buddy Billy-Joe built with popsicle sticks and twine, powered by a Legacy Turbo-Pimp amplifier.
Take any system with 1 or 2 subs, and I guarantee that with all other things staying equal, that their sound quality and SPL capabilities in a properly built enclosure will devistate anything that they can do on a plate. I've been there, I've done that, I got the t-shirt and I moved on.

a baffle board is virtually the same as a custom box, but it's cheaper...the bottom of the trunk acts like a "box", using the volume of the trunk.
i wish i could get some GOOD quality audio clips of my system, and you would change your mind about boards lol. the beauty is that the kick stays inside the car so you dont **** off an entire neighborhood...yea it's still kinda bumpin' outside, but not obnoxious...
inside the car is crazy, it has rattled my rear view mirror loose and all kinds of cool things like that

A baffle board isn't even close to a real sealed box... not even remotely close. The amount of leakage you get around the plastic body panels in the back is obnoxious. I've had plates, I know what their capabilities are. I'm guessing you've never heard your same subs, in your car with a sealed box, have you?

the board doesn't touch any plastic lol...
it's a weighed down, carpeted board that sits on a carpeted ledge

I'm not talking about air leaking around the plate, I'm talking about air leaking from your "enclosure" into the cavity behind the plastic in the back of the car, which is completely open to the interior of the car.
If your plate sits way down on that carpeted ledge instead of flush with the upper part of the well floor, then your design will be better than the standard style plate that everybody else uses, but it's still going to leak all kinds of air around that rear plastic trim piece unless you take great strides to damp the crap out of it, and do something to make an airtight seal between that plastic trim and the floor & rear vertical areas.

sorry man your not ganna win, Jim is right ......I had a plate set up that i thought sounded good at the time then i built my fiberglass box and it made a ton of difference. I even tryed to line the hole with foam and silicon the plate in and screw it in,,,it still doesnt even come close to the box. I had 2 12's in a plate and it wasnt untill i got a proper box i now shake the cra* out of my car and the lower bass is way better.
Having a plate set up is your subs IMO running at 50% of what they could do in a box.
Even after the fiberglass box i built i built a mdf one for my gf and its even different in some ways and man does it work good.
Fact is what jim said is totaly true,, have you ever had a proper box set up in your car?? NO, thats why you think yours sounds good (same with me).....audio clips arnt any good eather because how do you reproduce that bass sound on a computer speaker.... a good computer system with a sub could make a set of pyrimid subs sound good.
I say to the person who stated the tread get someone local to build you a mdf one or buy one....or if you can build your own.

i have one like you said at the beginning of that paragraph. it's on the carpeted ledge....the reason i went with the board is cuz it's cheaper, and since i bought new wheels and a new top i dont have much money to be throwin' at a box right now...
i wasn't trying to argue that a board is better sound wise opposed to a box, i was saying it's better if you dont want to spend too much $$$. it's a real good deal if you only wanna spend a few bucks, which is why i think they are good...
and i'm sure that next summer when i have more money i'll pay someone to make me a plexiglass box but right now i just dont have the money for it

but yah mdf is medium density fiberboard.... what most things are made of these days. I bought the mdf and screws for less then 40bucks at home depot to make my girlfriend's box (dont laugh thats not supposed to be dirty). Just started fiting cuting from the bottom up untill it was done, without any plans.
and plexyglass never heard of ppl useing that?? Fiberglass is alot differnt if thats what you ment.

plexi is very expensive in the thicknesses you need for a sub enclosure.
I used 3/4" plexi in my girlfriend's sub enclosure, and the cheapest I could find it was about $25/square foot.

Plexiglass is a bitch to cut, it'll plug your router bits, and frustrate the crap out of you. Plexi is not a material that you want to consider working with until you're already an MDF expert.
