big subs
Do you really need big subs for a good sounding setup. I don't want to take up the room in my car for big subs. I want to beabile to put stuff in the back. My brother has 2 12's in his car and it sounds like it has way to much bass. I have this radio at home and it sounds perfect. But is there a way to get that sound in my car. I pretty much have the highs and mids figured out. But am still working on the subs. Can I use a set of 6.5 inch subs like my home stero and have it sound like it also. I manliy listen to rock and techno. But will listen to everything else. Except mybe country. Thanks in advance for the help. Adam :-)

No, you don't need big subs. I have a pair of 8" subs in my girlfriends car and it sounds fantastic. There are plenty of 10" subs out there designed to work in small enclosures too.
Getting as small as a 6.5" might be pushing it, but there are some 6.5s out there that can play plenty deep... unfortunately, you really need to use those in a ported enclosure, and by the time you factor in box volume and port volume, usually it would have taken the same or less space to put a 10" sub into a sealed enclosure.
Oh... and don't forget that you can get by with just 1 sub too, you don't need two of them. That alone will help you save a ton of space.
If your brother's car has "too much" bass, it's not because he used 12s, but because he doesn't have the system set up properly. Whether you use 1 8" sub or 10 18" subs, if you tune it properly, the bass won't overpower the rest of the music unless you want it to.

Just tossing an idea out there: ED's EU-700. 6.5" woofer with a huge xmas. A few people have done crazy installs with them. If you poke around that forum you should be able to find his build thread.
No idea how they sound. You just said 6.5" sub and this is what I thought of
They're suposed to be decent drivers but don't expect to be able to get that low with them.

Did they not put the t/s parameters anywhere on that site, or did I just manage to miss them? I'd like to see how they model compared to the 8" Tangbands. Judging by their "suggested" ported enclosure, they might be pretty similar, but who knows what their "suggested" enclosure is actually doing.

Use 1 sub in an enclosure you gan take in and out of the car if you need the room... make sure the wires don't short out when not plugged into the box.

The only place I might have a place for a box is in the spare tire area. But I like to have my spare. Is there a way to have a small box on the drivers side under the cardboard thing. Adam :-)

I have one 10" subwoofer and an amp in the rear of the car. You can still strap the T-tops down in their bag also. With the woofer so close to the Hatch glass, ( maybe 18"-24" from glass), it makes way more than enough bass!!
300 watt Amp
1 10" Subwoofer with 0.80 cu. ft. air space.
Sounds great.
