What AMP to get for Alpine Subs?

Hello, I got 2 Alpine Type-S 12" Subs, On the box it specs 600watts and 200watts RMS @ 4ohms. I am not knowledgable about Amps and Subs, but I was wanting to know what a good amp to push these 2 speakers would be, I get the run around and whatever the salesman wants to sell me to meet their quota , All help appreciated!

Travis

Not many major retailers run on quotas. Most all the audio shops around here are also paying hourly rates. The only shop around here that I think might still be commission is Tweeter but I'm not too sure.

Anyway, are they dual voice coil? What are the coils rated at? What sub are you talking about? Current model is 300 watt RMS 900 peak. link

Get back to us with the RMS rating of the subs and their voice coil configuration. If you grabbed an older model it might have just one coil. It's still nice to know its impendence.

It's a shame that more shops don't use a commision-based system. Sure, you get pushy salesmen, but you also tend to get semi-knowledgable guys instead of know-nothing morons. When your paycheck depends on product knowledge, you tend to have more of it.

I agree. I install for a living and my salary is based on an hourly figure + commission incentives that can bring in an extra $1k/mo. It definitely pushes you to keep learning and getting better at what you do.

What coil impendence? 2 or 4? If you have two d2 subs then your final wiring options are .5, 2, or 8. 2 ohm is the best choice out of that group. Most amps are two ohm stable. If you're running d4s then your choice are 1, 4, and 8. 1 is ideal but not many amps are 1 ohm stable and those that are generally put out a decent amount of power (ie probably overkill for you).

Your generic choices are the JL slash series and PG's zenon series because they put out the same output regardless of load. Beyond that choose the sub that best fits your needs output wise. A 400-800 watt amp should do you fine. Note: amp output will vary with load. The lower the numerical load the higher the output. An amp that puts out 1200 watts x 1 @ 1 ohm puts out 900 watts x 1 @ 2 ohms and 450 watts x 1 @ 4 ohms.1. Thus the desire to run numerically lower loads as long as your amp can handle it.

I also agree. That's why I think the guy @ tweeter was commission based - he knew his stuff. At the same time I question whether or not he was because he had me listen to a lot of stuff and didn't seem to mind if I settled on something lesser in price. Maybe he was eager to have me as a customer even if I didn't buy top of the line, who knows. He defiantly knew his stuff though.

Most sales guys that are intelligent enough to know what they're talking about, also realize that a happy customer is a repeat customer.

Will the first 2 be overkill or will the sony be ok, Im not looking to win sound competitions or a high dollar amp, just somthing to make them sound plenty good.
