Help me identify these old school 8''subs?????

Hey guys i had lent these to my friend because i no longer needed them around 5-7 years ago not sure and they were probably old then. He no longer needed them so i took them back.

Belive it or not in my old fiero i had 2 of these hooked up to a little kenwood 170watt or so amp and got 125db's or so. sorry kinda boreing story for you but anyhow on to my question.

Im trying to find out what kind of subs these are.
-They are 8inch subs.
-They are all black.
-The cone has brail (sp?) type dimples sticking outwards.
-The cone is plastic not paper.
-The stiching holding the cone to the rubber or foam surround is real and has 2 stitches along the edge.
-The dust caps and labels have been removed,, im thinking to conseal they may have been stolen before i got them or because they are a junk brand, lord knows right.
-The dust cap would of been alittle smaller then 4" across (like 3-15/16") I would like to find someone with a couple extra ones as long as they are 4" wide if they would send them to me for cheap.
-There is a red dot (looks like facktory paint maybe) above one of the wire termals
-The rear cage has a triangle patterns on it
-The rear magnet looks to have a hole in it in the back but its not a vent as it wont let me pass air thru it.

Anyone have any good opinions on what I got here?? heres the best pics i could get....
My wild guess is pyramid(sp?)

If I had to guess, I would say it is an old Kicker Impulse, or possibly a Kicker Comp. Another possiblity is an old Coustic, but I am leaning more towards the Kicker.

You can order new dustcaps cheap through parts express @ www.parts-express.com The shipping will cost more than the parts.

You would probably also want to toss new surrounds on the things too - those look pretty dry rotted in the last pic.

It looks like they were pretty good subs back in the day though. I'm surprised that no big dust/debris got into the vc gap and messed things up considering that both you and your friend ran them without the dust caps.

What are your plans for them now? If you’re planning on just tossing them then I might be willing to take them off your hands for the price of shipping. I might have a use for them in my first attempt at home speakers.

It looks like a first or second generation Kicker Comp to me. The double stitched surround and goofy cone shape is what identified it for me.

Those little sh*ts used to pound pretty hard.

yah they havent been tested yet by me or even used for alteast 3yrs now. I dont think ill spend too much on em but i do want to keep em. The surround isnt cracked it just looked like it is because of the texture of the outer part of the surround...but suprising the surround is in good shape. And yah there was some crap got in and around the pole but i sucked it out with a vacume and it got rid of 90% of the stuff....you know if you push down the cone is will make a cuffing noise just a little now... before it was jaming right up.... now there cleared out abit ill test them out.

doesnt suprise me if they were kickers as yes they are surpriseing good kicking subs for the shape but that was a wile back well see now.

Dude, in that condition you'd be lucky to get a dollar. I'm not knocking the subs, but in that shape they aren't even worth your effort to put them on ebay.

E-bay link! I might pick them up if they stay pretty low to experiment with.

If you want I'll just give you $10 + shipping for the set

Seriously though, shoot me a pm if you just want to get rid of them and not deal with an auction.

Looks a lot like my old Comps from 1998 (minus dust cap). They did actually sound really decent for the $110 or so I paid for each one from a dealer back then.

The surrounds gave out on mine when I lent them to a girlfriend who hated bass and demanded I turn the bass gain as low as possible. When I put them back in my car after two years, they only lasted a few weeks before the surrounds were ripped completely in a circle. I replaced them with the new DVC CompVR...sounded decent again, but not as loud as the old Comps.

Back to the top. I just bought both subs for an undisclosed sum of money so that I will have some spare woofers to play around with. The idea behind this is that I will be able to actually hear first hand the differences between various box configs (sealed, ported, etc). I will build one sealed box to spec as a reference box and I will be playing around with a second box. I’m going to try various port styles (round, square, rectangle), port area (more vs less), etc. My goal is to gain knowledge/understanding so that my next enclosure can be top notch. I might even try a bandpass box if I have enough wood left over even though there’s very little chance of me actually using one.

That said I NEED THE T/S FOR THIS WOOFER. If anyone can be of service here I will be more than grateful.

Those're old Kicker Impulses I would put money on it. Ohm them out with a multi meter and search Kickers website for the parameters.

Another vote for Kicker. The magnet looks just like my old Kickers!
