After Reading- Some Final Questions

I have read through a lot of the posts on here for the past few months. Well a lot of my questions have been answered but I still have some final questions about the instalations to my 93 Buick LeSabre.

I plan to put 12" Alpine Type R's in this box:

I curently have this amp.

How will the box work with the type R's? Will this amp work well for powering both subs or would it be better off powering only one sub.

In the front I plan to put these 4X6 speakers:

I am not totally sold on these speakers yet because I have heard some so-so reviews. Are there better 4X6's in this price range or are these the best out there?

I plan to put these in the rear.

I have heard since I listen to metal music rear speakers are useless. But, since I am putting small speakers in the fron t I feel I need these. Are these the Best rear speakers I can get for the money?

The one part I am not sure yet is what reasonably priced amp I should get to power my front and rear speakers. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all the help. Sorry this is so long but I've been waiting to post until I had somewhat of an idea what I need and I got all my questions put together.

If your not going to have a box built specifiaclly for those subs the don't go with a ported box. Most likely it will sound bad and tend to be peaky as the box looks small and im sure the tuning is a bit high.

I already have this box thats why I chose to go with it. Are there Other good subs that would work with this box? What box works best with the type R's? Where can I find info on the boxes? Thanks for all the help.

A rough guestimate of box area for that box is around 2.75 or 3 cubes. That's not that small for a ported box and should work fine depending on what it's tuned to. Unfortunately, odds are that it's tuned pretty high and is designed to be peaky to give the impression of more output to the average consumer.

As for different box types, check out this site. Read through his sealed systems, ported systems, etc links to get a feel for what each box is capable of.

What subs will work well in that box: it’s not the subs that will make the box sound good, it’s the box that will make the subs sound good. As almost everyone says, it’s all in the install. This means that even if you were to go out and buy $1,000+ subs you’re still going to have a crappy sound if you put them in a poorly designed box. I’m not saying that’s the case with this box but it might be given how many unknowns it has (volume, tuning frequency, etc). Since you already have the box see if you can find some info on it somewhere (volume, tuning, etc – might be in a manual that came with it?).

type-r's: there's better you can buy for the money but they will probably fill your needs fine so I wouldn't worry about it.

Rear speakers: if you really want to run rear speakers try to just run midbass drivers back there (6-8” speakers with no tweeters). It will help fill out your sound without pulling the stage too far back. Trust me, the tweeters bouncing off the dash will be more than harsh enough

Edit: I also question where you're going to put that box. If you plan on throwing it in the rear seat realize that you're going to have noticeably less output than a box in the hatch would produce.

Subtracting port volume and you wind up with alot less than 2.75 cu ft. And still if the box isn't made for those specific subs then it won't sound good. ported boxes are far less forgiving than a sealed box. Its not that the box is bad, its just made for the original speakers that were in it. You could try it, you may get lucky and it works well but its doubful.
