I have an 88 IROC Convertible which didn't come with a power antenna. I'd like to add a factory style one but can't seem to find the relay under the passenger side dash area. Is this because since it wasn't there from the factory, the relay won't be there either? TIA.

 

more than likely the relay is on the the antenna itself , all the aftermarket ones i put on come with it built on the motor . if not just build a relay

 

The stock power antenna does have the relay mounted behind the panel that is beneath the map pocket.

If it was not factory equipped with a power antenna, I would seriously doubt that the relay would be there.

 

mine came with a power antenna but its broke now and i cant find a new one.

 

The replacement antenna is GM#88891017 and it cost about $125. Earlier replacement antenna numbers have been discontinued. Below is a picture of the unit.

Thank you for all your comments. Actually, I bought an original used antenna with the factory harness with three wires going from it to the antenna. I guess I'll just look for the connector a little more carefully. If it's not there, what kind of wiring would I have to do to get it to function. Most aftermarket antennas I've seen only have two wires. Also, I tried an aftermarket before but the relay was too far up the shaft and it would fit the inner fender hole that's there.

Galletti, you would need a 6 pin relay like a SMP RY603 or equivalent. The one side of the relay would have power, ground, and the pink lead from your radio. The other side would have the three leads from the power antenna.

You should be able to find a good used stock power antenna for about $50.

Supposedly the aftermarket Metra power antenna does not fit our cars all that well.
