radio troubles.

Car: '85 camaro z28
Engine: currently the 305, soon to be a 383 stroker
Transmission: 700r4
radio troubles.

i have a sony xplode hu(crap i know but it was free) im putting into my 89 because the factory radio wasnt working. the problem is its gettin power to eject and accept cd's but the face isnt coming on and it wont play music. is the cd player shot or might it be something in the wiring? any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Axle/Gears: 9 bolt w/ 3.73
Take a multimeter to your power and ignition wire and verify that both are getting at least 12 volts with the key on. A friend of mine had a smilar problem. After some looking into it I found out that the deck was only getting something like 8 volts.

^^^ What he said. A Sony will load and eject a CD with power on the yellow wire and no power on the red wire. You need 12V on both wires for the HU to turn on. That may have been the problem with the stock HU.
