kick panel speaker placement
I'm looking into making some kick panel speaker enclosures and I'm wondering about tweeter placement. I've seen a couple different designs with different tweeter placements. I'm new to fiberglass fabrication and I'm looking to make this as easy as possible. Jim85iroc has his tweeters mounted below and behind the woofer and 82 firebird has his surface mounted below and in front of the woofer. Is there a better placement or does it not really matter? This is how I planned on setting them up. Any help would be appreciated.

The best thing to do is experiment with wood mockups before you fiberglass. For that reason, I'd suggest using a separate tweeter ring and woofer ring so that you can move them independantly of each other until you find a location that you're satisfied with.
I've personally found that tweeter placement is far less critical than I expected it to be in terms of imaging, so I concentrated on locations that gave the best phase alignment between the drivers.

I'm running Jim's kicks and absolutely love them even with someone in the passenger’s seat from time to time blocking the line of sight of the tweeter/woofer. The only complaint I have is when someone puts their foot in front of the tweeter completely muffling all sound from it. If I had to build kicks I would put the tweeter up about 4 or 5 inches so this won’t happen. This will introduce problems trying to get the two drivers exactly in phase as Jim’s install does, but it would be worth it if you could pull it off.
I agree with Jim. Build MDF rings for the tweeter and the woofer and then attach some flexible metal from them to the kick. Angle them around until you find what works best.

Looks like you've got a pretty good start there! I adjusted mine to a few different positions and couldn't tell much of a difference. I ended up just mounting them where I thought they looked the best.
I had some custom fiberblass kicks made a few years ago, and if I had it to do over again, I would have put them in the doors instead. One problem is that they really cut down on foot room, and are constantly being kicked and stepped on by passengers. Even with constant reminders, it happens, and the reminding gets old. I've had the passenger tweeter knocked out of the kickpod a few times. Besides that you can hear and get better sound out of putting them in the doors, and the fabrication/intallation process is similar. That being said, if you plan on putting them in the kicks, the tweeter is best placed above and in front of the woofer. I hope this helps, just trying to give a little experience.
