is my amp done? help.

i have a 300 wt crunch amp. something odd happened. when ever i turn on the car, my amp automatically goes to protect mode. like something is shorting it out or something. so i unhooked all the spkrs going to it, and i hooked up the power connections from my other amp to it, and same thing is happening. there's nothing that i could see shorting it out. i even unhooked the rca plugs just to be sure. and it just keeps going to protect mode. wtf?

If you have just the power connections made (no RCAs or speaker outputs) and it is still going into protect, there is a problem with the amp. You can sent it to Rockford for a flat rate repair.

Are you running bridged? Something I ran into a while back...Check your sub with a multi-meter to see what kind of ohms it is presenting to the amp. I had a 2ohm stable amp but the sub...(bought off e-bay...nice) was presenting .95 ohms to the amp. It went in to "protect" immediately.

My bad .
Probably not worth fixing. Me thinks it's time for a new amp.

If with no speakers connected it is still going into protection, you have a powered paperweight.
Did it ever fizzle, or let the magic smoke out? Or was their no warning?

there wasn't much warning. it would make a weird "zoop" sound. almost as if it had some kind of interference. but would stop after about 2 sec..
