I want to up grade my sound system. all i have is pioneer 4x6s and alpine 3way 6x9s. MY problem is where to put more sound equpement.. I have a rear cargo shade cover, a locking rear storage cover, and t tops So that pretty much restricts the usage of using the rear well, or the rear deck becasue that is where my shade is and where i strap my t tops down.
I also dont want to cut holes in the back of my rear seats because sometimes my buds sit back there.

Anyone have any suggesttions of where to hide a good loud sound system 100% out of my way?

Please give me feedback after reading this.... good or bad, i want to get alot of opinions.

it sounds like you would have to relocate or remove something. You could take off your locking cover and put a box in the well (and you can still store your t-tops in the bag in front of it). You could also remove your spare tire and build a sub box to hide in there. It would be very tight, but you could get an 8" or 10" sub to fit where your rear locking compartment is on the left side.

Also, isn't a locking rear storage cover and a cargo shade cover kind of redundant? I don't think any cars came from the factory equipped with both.

 

Very true , mine came factory with the shade and i bought the locking cover because i like the flush look it gives.

As for the idea you offered, i like it, however id be screwed if i got a flat, and i wouldnt be able to put my little goodies [fuses, jump cables, etc] anywhere if i had to loose the locking side box. I would have to think about which one would have to go, even though i think i would like to do it to both sides. thanks... ill think about that

Also has anyone put speakers in the kick panels? is it worth the work? do they get in the way?

I would remove your locking rear and build a box to sit flush with your hump. Bolt the amp to the hump and retain your spare tire. If you do it right, You can still use the bag for your tops.

 

Well originally that was what i was going to do but i decided that i had to have a locking rear cover and bought one.

I think i will put a sub where the locking side storage box is. I would do both sides but i am a little ify whether i want to risk it without a spare.

You don't really need to eliminate anything, but it can limit you. Keep in mind you don't need two subs. Spend the money on one GOOD sub. You should be able get the air space for one sub and keep the level of the box below the locking cover. Just build the box so it uses the bottom half of the well. Have the sub mounted all the way to one side and add a little wall beside the sub. It may be less then a foot, but you should have room for you jumper cables on the box to one side under the locking cover, and the wall would keep them from siding into and onto the sub.

 

Well i could make a well box...... but the locking lid would muffle the sound would it not?

On the other hand i could make a box for the drivers side locking cardboard box. but that lid would muffle the sound as well would it not?

What would be superior?

Some, but not much. It depends on how loud you want. If you really want loud, loss the locking cover and go all out.

i just bought the locking rear well lid. It isnt in my car yet so right now it is just the regular back there. It is definetly going in because i spent a fortune to get like new quality.

Now if i put subs under it they would be muffled. and if i put a sub in the side lock box it would be muffled also.

But what if i put two tens or twelves in the locking lid and the boxed them off on the bottom? or left it open?

Also about shallow 8 inchers under the seats. I like that idea as well. Will they fit under the drivers power seat and the passenger manual seat?
Are there any posts that will tell me dimensions for under seat boxes?

Actually I have subs under my locking plate or whatever and it acts like a sub box and amplifies it. I also have 6 1/2 " in the sail panels with 6 x 9s in the back as well. And it gets nice and loud and sounds great.

 

what would be superior? subs under the locking carpeted cargo well plate? or subs drilled into the locking plate itself?

Like I said I think it would be all but impossible to put subs under the seats.

well just throw them under the well. Then you can always put a box in there.

 

there is no way to fit subs under the seats. You'd be hard pressed to fit a 3.5" round speaker under there.

Well i would have made a search before i made this post but it is still disabled.

Can someone just up and tell me whether a plate with 2 ten inchers is better or worse than a sealed box with one ten inch sub.

plates are no good i did it,,, everyone said they sucked and when i went with my glass box I soon realized plates are no good they give like 40% or so performance a box does. Now under the locking cover you wouldnt fit more then like 1 ten or so.....some ppl like subbwoffer tubes under there...that would be better then two twelves in a plate trust me.
or get rid of the locking cover and go with 2 tens or 12's

id say dont get the 10s to put it in your cover...1 your ruining your cover and 2 wouldnt sound good you need to seal them in.....maybe if you had free air subs i dont know (i dont know about thoes) Most arnt tho....so if i were you id get a 1 12" or 10 in a banpass box or sealed box or a canon or something...better then 2 of anything in a plate set up.

 

What is a sub woofer tube? Sorry i pretty much dont know anything about sound.

its a tube with a sub in it basicly...google- bass cannons Bazooka -
some times you find them amped and some arnt.
Now a bass cannon is a good place to start if you want a bit of bass...some work better then others....there not as good as 2 10s in a box or anything but you get them cheap sometimes and there good to hide and easy to remove (good and bad).

 

Why not pull the metal 6X9 panels in your sail panels and make some MDF baffles for decent 8in subs, your doors can have build outs installed easily as well, just cut a piece of MDF, carpet over it and cut the cardboard door panel behind it. You would be better off with the 6X9's removed for dedicated subs, and an amp hooked up to your front stage and subs.

 

ive heard p/w cars are hard to make room for the speaker magnets unless there thin speakers and you woorked them out quite abit

 

using the doors is out of the question. I have the 91 firebird cup holders [ and power windows]. And i am definetly keeping my 6x9s. Right now i am putting a 10 inch sub in the rear trunk well under my rear locking cover. I was thinking speakers in the kick panels too but the price is far too high.

Right now i am not sure whether to get a Image Dynamics D4 10" sub or a Rockford fosgate Punch 10" sub
