Has anyone ever built a box like this?

This is a box in the back of a 4th gen. This seems like an ideal way to store the T-Tops even with subs in the back. Just wondering if anyone had tried something like this in a thirdgen or not...

not that i've seen, but the hatches are very similar, would be possible but not easy. thats a real clean looking setup.

wow thats nice looking. but if that was my car i would realy be freak-out about my t-tops breaking when the bass hits. i think it might realy do damage to them. TGO Supporter

The bass won't damage the t-tops. I'd be much more worried about what would happen to them in an accident.

^^^ Thats what I'd don't like about that setup (been posted before). Think about them shattering and sending the side bar part with broken glass right up between the seats.

yeah, and the t-tops actually touch each other... it's your OPTION to put a rag in between...
I prefer the bag that the thirdgens have myself... while it takes longer to take them off, it's much easier to make the bag work with subs...

That would be awsome but I would be weary of leving my t's hanging like that...not to mention 4th gen T's are much smaller. My best solution after building my box is to leave one of my rear seats folded down...

Would a setup like that sound as good as the "standard one" ?
In this setup the woofers are pointed slightly forward, in the "standard one" woofers are pointed straight up ? What about loading off the hatch or something ?

I'd rather have a bigger box, and a safer mounting location for the t-tops... like, I don't know, in a bag? strapped down?

Bass frequencies are largely "omnidirectional", which is a fancy way of saying you can't tell which direction low frequencies are coming from. This is generally true for all frequencies about 80 Hz and lower. Thus tilting the subs backwards or forwards will make no difference, sound quality wise

the only phenomenon I've noticed is that when you have a hatch-firing box, the 'higher' bass can sometimes be overwhelming... whereas, a down/rear-firing box will muffle those sounds a bit more, resulting in, what sounds like, deeper bass...

either way...
the best I've ever heard in a thirdgen was when I had a box that fired towards the license plate... you get deeper bass because the sound wave has more time to become 'fuller,' for lack of sonic frequency knowledge...
but basically down/rear-firing will prove to be better bang-for-buck systems...
plus you can make them stealthy...

Kewl, well I already sound proofed my well pretty darn good.
I'm just wondering what to do next, try a ported box for my sub, or wait until I can get another amp and another sub, because my current setup requires me running 410W RMS into the 250W RMS single sub at 2 ohm, the sub being DVC and amp giving out 300W RMS at 4 ohm, makes it not a good idea to even try running two of those subs at 4 ohm.
But I do want more volume *lol*
That 4thGen setup deserves credit for design, beautifully crafted, however the t-top thingy uhmmmm

Nice set up. I thought of doing this with a third gen, but didn't really have the room. Building a big ported box for competition is hard enough to find air space. My tops just go in the bag that runs from the back of my box (goes up to back of seat) down to the floor. No room for back seat passengers with them this way but looks clean. I love my lexan tops, don't worry about bass breaking them.

Stinger 5 farad cap, HiFonics 4 channel under sub amp, distro blocks, and Stinger amp fan hidden under hinged face plate to amp rack.
