volfenhag
So today I goto a trade show, end up buying myself a nice new volfenhag amp.
I got the zx-7180 2000 watt one. Weird thing is, I cant find any online that have the same color as mine. All the ones I see online are black or silver, mines red. I spent 170 on this amp, was this a good amp to buy with that amount of money?

I did a search using a few different search engines, and found a couple things one of them being at the volfenhag website itself.
http://www.volfenhagaudio.com/amplifier3.html
If it is the zx7180 then its not 2000 Watts its 1600 which is max power and is what your going to be getting on a regular basis anyways. Max power is a bull**** number that Amp manufacturers give you to make the amp sound better

I know that it says the zx-7180 is 1600 on the main website but I seen on ebay a few 2000 watt zx-7180's and also through google I found some that are 2000 watts too. On the back of my amp where it has the sticker and stuff it says zx-7180 and also says 2000 watt.
I was confused about this too when I went to the main website.

well ill be finding out if i want to keep it or not today.
My friend daves got two xplode p5 10"s, they are rated 1200 watts a piece *like 300 rms I think* We have the box all setup and wired so im just waiting for him to get off work so we can go buy a wiring kit. If this amp bumps these xplodes like Im expecting, then im going to keep the amp, if not, im selling it.

lol. rms is the power rating. max power means nothing, other than making the consumer think its more powerful than it is.
those xplods are garbage.

You say today you bought a NICE NEW Volfenhag amp. There is no such thing. You bought a NEW Volfenhag. Not a NICE new volfenhag. Those amps suck.
The other problem is the power rating you stated. 2000watts huh? That is not the RMS power rating. That is the ILS Rating. Not familiar with the ILS rating? The ILS rating stands for - If Lightning Strikes... What that means is, the ONLY way that piece of crap amp will put out 2000 watts, is if it gets nailed by lightning. So enjoy your BRAND NEW JUNK!!

I know that the rms power wasnt going to be amazing, im not worried now. We hooked it up in my friends car and it sounds great. Sure, its not nearly as loud as some of the systems ive heard before, but it still sounds surprisingly good and clear. I had to put the gain to 3 o'clock otherwise it stressed the subs. Im going to save up and either get three 10's, or two 12's. Im not going to buy sony subs, ill get like 3 jl audio w6's or something and eventually ill buy another amp just like it. It did sound good.

correct me if im wrong, but did you just say you were going to buy ANOTHER one to run jl w6's of all things?
----------
for the 360 dollars you just spent on those 2 ****TY amps you could have bought yourself a nice amp that will actually do 1500 watts rms. a really nice one.

true, but im already commited kinda. I know where you are coming from, ive been around very high end systems before. I've heard jl audio w6's in action with an amp that pushes them to there limits, I was blown away.

not really, take the 50 dollar loss to sell it on ebay or get your money back from someone local that doesnt know any better, get yourself a nice amp. itll need less electrical upgrades, look nice, take up less space, and sound better.

W6s powered by a Volf.
That's like building a Nextel Cup car, sparing no expense on the body, suspension, chassis and interior, but then putting a Briggs & Stratton under the hood.

Profile's amps are real cheap, not sure what the most powerful one is though.
Someone mentioned something before about them being straight out amps, nothing fancy nothing special, just good amps for the buck.
I know, not by sound yet, since I'm not done hooking mine up, but by general impression, the amp is real big, could they have made it smaller ? Maybe, but they would have also charged more than 59 dollars for a 300W RMS at 4 ohm mono amp.
