help with setting gain on amps

Ok, I have a JVC kd--lh910, infinity 4612,and sony xplode 6x9. Running all 4 channels with and Alpine mrp-f250. A 10"Bazooka with an Alpine 10" type r,running off an MTX 3001. CAn you guys give me a basic how to on setting up the gain on the amps. I've been playing with the amps a little but the sound isn't quite right. I'm sure my 6x9's are part of the problem sony xplode=garbage but they were free. A friend of mine told me to shut off the loudness feature on the deck. the 4 channel has the HP/LP switches and freq. dials for 1+2 and 3+4. I have plenty of highs and plenty of boom but it seems like there is something missing. Can anyone give me a base line to start with? I am definately not an audio guru but I have a durango with 5.25 in the doors with a 4 ch Alpine and a 10" ported Alpine sub in it with an Alpine mono amp and the truck sounds sooo much better. Thanks.
