Pioneer Premier DEH-P480MP

I was thinking of purchasing a Pioneer Premier DEH-P480MP headunit. Any opinions: good/bad or otherwise?

Pioneer is one of my mainstay favorites, the styling on these new decks is excellent without to much BS. Pioneer's tend to be solidly reliable and well thought out this deck offers a built in Hp/Lp crossover and sub output which all decks should have especially if you plan on running your internal sepakers off of the deck. I was looking at this exact same deck to replace my aging JVC. In my opinion this is one of the most attractive looking, well thought out, and reliable cd mp3 players on the market at the moment.

I have the DEH-P4800MP head unit and except for the name Premier on it, it appears the same. Is there a difference? I really like mine.

Thanks for the help 1991Camaro!

Ringo, there are subtle differences between your deck and the one I am looking at. Go to the pioneer website. As you can see, the Premier version has a couple more bells and whistles, but nothing too huge. How do you like your radio?

I love it. Sounds are clear and crisp. I'm not running an amp or subs yet but it still sounds great to me.

Dollar for dollar it's hard to beat a Pioneer for performance and reliability.

I like the headunit a lot. My only problem is that it isn't very bright during the day (it's fine at night).

Can you guys reccomend a set of speakers to use? I was thinking of going component speakers up front (tweeters and 6.5' speakers) and 5.25' in the rear. I have $300 tops to spend. Any ideas?

ive heard nothing but good things about pioneer headunits. its probably a good choice. as for components, im a fan of MB Quart, which is a little pricey but worth it, and you can never go wrong with alpine.

How are Alpine's speaker's this year? While they have a great track record, I heard the new headunits are cr*p. Word on the street says they're stopping production of the headunits in a couple of years and this year's models are missing a lot features. Something about having to buy a seperate processor because they are no longer included?

I'm not bashing Alpine, I'm just saying that's what I've heard.

One word for Alpine GLIDE TOUCH. That stuff is weak! On top of it you have to save every setting to a preset after you make it, it's just not user friendly! As for the Pioneers, the user interface is layed out amazingly well and straightfoward.

Well Someone broke in my car last night and stole my pioneer. If that wasn't bad enough they just ripped the console out of the dash. Now I bot only nrrf s new radio but a new center console.

and i haven't heard anything bad about the alpine speakers but IMHO i would take alpine speakers/subs over pioneer speakers/subs. I've just had bad luck with pioneer's speakers myself. I have an older 8500MP with the dual face and it still does great even in this 106 degree weather. IMO Pioneer deck, MB Quart Components, Alpine V12 amps, and either JL or MTX Subs. That combination has always worked very well for me.

Alpine HUs are over hyped crap. Pioneer HU=good stuff.
Alpine speakers are good, Pioneer speakers are crap.
Alpine amp's are over engineered disaster waiting to happen, Pioneer amp last and are built well, but have no power.

I love my alpine stuff. Im actually selling slighty used alpine 5.25, 6x9, 12, all type r's and a v power 700 watt and mrp450 amps https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...-dvd-12-a.html . They all worked great for me in my cadilac and not that im selling it i dont need these. I suggest alpine as i've run alpine's for close to 4 years without any trouble and all my frineds pioneer and especially kenwoods blow out.
