I have another car that I'm getting ready to put new speakers in. It has a 5x7 and i want to put an alpine type r 6.5 in it. Are the adapters neccesary to make them fit or can i just drill them in and be done?

5x7's where? In the sail panels? Dash? Dash will not work unless you are willing to hack it up pretty good and give up your air ducts. Sail panels will work, but you will need to make adapters.

Now, with a 5x7, i assume it's not for a Camaro.
Our front dash for thirdgens are 4x6's, not 5x7's... I do not recommend taking the ones in the dash out and putting anything bigger in, unless you give up your air ducts and some hacking.
Now, this is for a Camaro, I don't know if you are referring to a Firebird, Trans Am, or another car... please specify.
Now, I see you have a 4th gen as your car in your profile. This is all to do with thirdgen's that we are talking about. If you are doing this for your 4th gen, sorry, I cannot answer your question, as this is a thirdgen board.

When you said another car, I figured 3rd gen, and I didn't know of any 3rd gen with 5x7's. I should have picked up on the car in your profile, as I know that 4th gens have 5x7's, but I'm still not sure where they are, so next time be so kind as to enlighten us. Thread Starter

okay, well its actually a mazda 929 with 5x7's in the front and rear. My 4th gen has front and sail panel 6.5 and a 4" hatch. I will be more specific next time as i thought that would do. Anywhooo, I wanted to know if those adapters do anything for sound quality or if its just to hold them. I dont see how air tight it could make them but if it helps i would be game.
