Well you really have alot of options as to what you can do. Those Kicker subs do look cool and arent a bad idea. Personally I like the infinity's because they are pretty damn good for the price. I bought two of them on Ebay for about 100-120 I think it was. And the Rockford Fosgate Amp for about 150. Then take into account the wiring thats about another 50-100 bucks depending on what you go with and the your enclosure. I built mine to fit two 12"s and with all the wood and caulk prob about another 30 bucks. So overall it all depends what your preference is and what you like. 500 dollars would really get you a great amp sub set-up if your willing to pay that much.

Ive had great luck with Kenwood amps, and have owned the 7201 800 watt (it actually KILLED a 03 L5 12" @ 2ohms) 7252 1000watter, and now im to a kenwood excelon KAC-X621. Its byfar my favorate, but then again most expensive. I bought all of my stuff using Ebay. Ive had 2 JBL GTi 12" subs (cheapos) that got me 146db with the 7201 amp. Then I sold those shortly after my competetion, and picked up a single 12" L5 that hit much harder, and got about the same loudness wise. The infinity subs are very nice as well. I think they used to be the 1320's that a buddy had on a KAC-7201 amp. They were very similar to my JBLs with a little more punch to them. A single 12" is close to what your looking for, if you dont want artifical breathing.
I never got to see what my L5 would register at, but I loved the way it sounded in a 1.2cuft sealed encloser. Hit nice and hard, where you could feel it. I actually had it in the rear seat of another car that had a chip in the windshield. Well I ended up cranking up the amp to see what it could do, and messed with some 22-35hZ test, and ended making that chip turn into a 18" crack, and then cooking the voice coils shortly after. I plan on steping up to a new L7 heres soon. I also havnt spent more than $145 on any of my amps or kicker subs. Even the JBL subs were $150 through crutchfield, but those will let you feel the air going in and out of your body. The kicker is more like someone hitting your chest with a palm.
Plan to spend ALOT on fiberglass. I know its cool for the weight stand point, and beingable to make a box anywhere, but it gets expensive. About the cheapest way I found to do it was to get matt over Ebay and then resin locally. Ebay wireing kits work well to, wire is wire, plus you can usually pick up a nice 4ga kit for <$25 shipped that has all of the connectors/wires that you need. Ive done 7-8 installs using various kits on there, and they all do fine, and no strange noises. One thing I do recomend about them, is going to radioshack, and getting a 24' Video, mono audio RCA. They are 9.99 and the ends are very tough and will not pull off. If you get the regular audio RCAs, you will spend almost $20 (I used to work for radioshack)
