$150 max? No problem.
Image Dynamics IDQ10 D2
I run 2 IDQ12's, and they're more than enough... don't know how much boom that one 10" would give you, but it'll certainly sound very clear. =)
I've been impressed with a few Infinity subs as well for quality. The JL unit is also not too shabby.
Best you can do is listen, and see which one suits you best

JL is top notch quality, the place that I work has a sister company that sells Audio Video for car and home. We have been a JL dealer since the birth of the company. Unfortuately for you I live in West Virginia.
I have not purchased my sub yet, but that is the sub I am putting in my car, along with a Crossfire 4x100 and a Crossfire 2x300 amplifier. I still have to construct a box and stuff, and get my Eclipse 4x6's and 6x9's put in. I will post pics and everything when I get all the parts.
Try one of these places.

I second JLAs.
My GTA had a Bazooka tube in when I bought the car, and will go with JLS subs when I have the money. Haven't decided on an amp. HiFonics was my choice, but they got bought out, and went downhill.

2 alpine type s will run you about 180, sound real clear, and need opnly 600 rms between the two. if you get the 2 ohm subs, they should fit your needs well.
If youre just going to run 1, a type r 10 would also do the job and needs only only 500 rms
