where can i get cheap hp upgrades?

Transmission: 700r4 auto
where can i get cheap hp upgrades?
I own a 89 2.8 with no upgrades I bought it from a 50 old lady who in herited it from her 60 something year old dad its my first car and I only got it two months ago but it needs some interior work and i want some more torque.
Does anybody know how to fix a falling headliner and how I can get some more torque with out blowing my money for school books?
And what is the biggest possible engine that can fit in the thirdgen cuz I could have gotten my hands on a v12 from a jag roadster that the owner was t-boned in but I was told it wudn't fit by my friend before the owner traded it for a tune up on a ferrari?
